We now know the trade in offers that will be available to those with older V8, v7, and v6 one-time licences, and for recently purchased perpetual v8 licences.

  • NEW: Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year support from the date of purchase) and receive 50% off the normal annual plan price for life (must turn on auto-renew and not allow the license to expire/lapse).
Home users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best. Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option from the grace period will be published this week.

For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:
You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:

If you choose 50% off annual plans for life, you will have to trade in your current Reflect Home V8 license.

If you choose 3 years for the price of 2, you can keep your Reflect Home V8 license. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)

I use Reflect X on my desktop PC and Reflect 8 still on less critical laptops.

No major bugs to fix or something else?

I've used various versions of Macrium Reflect for many years and have been very satisfied with it. I've just installed Macrium Reflect X on my 2 Windows 11 systems and it is working fine. I uninstalled the free version 8 before installing version X.

I did run into one minor problem and I haven't been able to find a solution searching the web. For years, up to 2019, I was "tech support" for my in-laws Windows XP system. I did regular Macrium Reflect backups during that time but I'm not sure which version I was using at the time (V4, V5, V6, V7, V8). I tried using version X to open one of those old image files to browse it, but ran into this error:

The image file referenced in the above error message is dated 01/26/2019. Apparently, I was using a version older than 6.1 at that time.

I searched for a method to convert old .mrimg files to current .mrimgx format files, but apparently that's not possible. The only other suggestion I found while searching was to install an old version of Macrium Reflect so I could browse these old image files.

Has anyone else run into this issue and perhaps found another workaround? I don't have any urgent need to access these image files right now, but I'm just looking for a way to do it in case I ever need to.

No, it isn't. While the mrimgx format is Open Source, the mrimg format is proprietary and no one except Macrium know how it's structured.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. Thanks for the info. Actually, I saved 2 old installation versions that I could try. The V6 would probably be best since it is an x64 version.

You cannot install two versions, each would want to register its own services and they would conflict. The installer won't let you.

The v6 x64 is the only one you can install on a 64 bit OS. The x86 will only allow you to install on a 32 bit system. It's down to those system services again, they have to be the same 'bits' as the OS.

By the way, the reason Reflect X cannot handle a .mrimg made by anything older than v6.1 is that v6.1 introduce a change to the index structure of the image and Reflect X only supports the new format for mrimg indexes. It's all in the release notes....

Somewhere in that thread you'll find various workarounds to allow psmounterex.sys to load, most of which reduce the security of your system. One is to turn off the Vulnerable Driver Blocklist. If that switch is greyed out you'll have to turn off Core Isolation/Memory Integrity first.

My preferred workaround is simply to boot from a rescue USB that was made before the blocklist was updated. A rescue USB is not just for restores, it can also mount an image for browsing. I posted that somewhere in that thread, I also posted it on the Macrium forum here:

psmounterex.sys load error - (Page 7)

Have you kept any older rescue USBs you could use? A v6 one perhaps? If so you may not even need to install v6.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

I switched to Macrium Reflect X back in 2025, and auto renewed this year, covered til 2027. Works Well for my needs

You have Pro, you could use Hyper-V to run a VM. You could install v6 in the VM.

Do you have any older backup images? One that was made before April when MD updated the Vulnerable Driver Blocklist, but recent enough that it was made with v6.1 or later? If so, then you can use Macrium viBoot to boot it up as a Hyper-V VM.

For the psmounterex.sys issue, one workaround is to use viBoot to load the backed up image file then mount the virtual drive viBoot uses to extract any files you need.

The oldest backup image I have is from June 21 and was made with v8 free, so no, nothing before April.

I have Win 11 Pro and just turned on Hyper-V. I have to reboot now. I'll play around with it to see if I can figure out how to use it.

You may now be able to access those very old images by using viBoot, one of Macrium's suggested workarounds. You don't need to know how to use Hyper-V, viBoot handles all that for you.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

I tried viBoot but it won't load the old file from 2019... unless I'm doing it wrong. KB5083769 was installed back in April as your link to mounting errors describes.

My rescue USB is built on Windows RE 11 and when I installed Macrium Reflect X last Sunday the 16th, it was version 10.0.8843.

My issue is not with being unable to boot the Rescue USB drive, it boots fine. My issue is that I can't mount a very old image file.

You're using the Reflect X version of viBoot, it says at the bottom 'Current Version 10.0.8843'. It may have the same 'v6.1 or higher' limits as mounting an image with Reflect X.

Athough it is supplied with Reflect, viBoot is actually a standalone application. You just need the viBoot.exe. If you have a v7 or v8 install of Reflect you can copy viBoot from that, put it in a folder somewhere, and run it from there. Reflect v7 is supposed to be able to restore all earlier images, the v7 viBoot should be able to use all older images too.

viBoot does not depend on any other part of Reflect, in fact it could run on a machine that doesn't have Reflect installed at all. It has no problem running on a machine with Reflect X installed. Here's viBoot v7 on a machine with Reflect X.
