I just tested it again, by the way, and setting the Default to the new printer and the problem immediately returns once the printer switches itself off. I have confirmed that the power-up delay of the application is down to the printer being switched off.

It says a WSD port. Whatever that is. The old printer is the same, except it has a different port number.
