  1. Solved I've been using MozBackup for literally decades to back up my firefox profile. Is there any real reason that I should be using something newer?

Thank you all for the additional options and votes of confidence. If for some reason MozBackup no longer suits my needs, I now have some additional options to move on to, but I am a big fan of my habits, and MozBackup has been a habit for decades, and for now, I'm in no rush to break it!

I've been using MozBackup for literally decades to back up my firefox profile. Is there any real reason that I should be using something newer? It's not an online program, so security updates are a worry, is there any real benefit of a different app?
  3. Brave browser

Firefox/startpage as my primary, but youtube seems to hinder firefox, so I use Brave, pretty much exclusively, for youtube.
  4. CCleaner Alternatives

I've used this one for years, very happy with it.
  5. software GPU emulator?

Thank you for the suggestion! I have become very familiar with opensubtitles! There is always some oddball release that I can't find there, presumably because the source for some incomprehensible reason chose to release it without subs.
  6. software GPU emulator?

Thank you very much! My "right" hearing is fine, it's my left that is the problem, I have nerve damage that causes multi tone tinnitus and everything to sound like it's being spoken via crinkling tin foil, if that makes any sense. So, "deaf" is not really the correct term, more accurately...
  7. software GPU emulator?

I may have to spring for a simple GPU and install it, and at the very least, next system, I'll make sure one is installed from the get go. Bad hearing sucks! Happy new year!
  8. software GPU emulator?

This is why I'm hoping for a better solution, this is about 15 hours of progress
  9. software GPU emulator?

If I am reading it correctly, a two hour movie, at .14 may take 16 to 18 hours or so, reasonable, I tried one running for two straight days, 48+ hours, and had what seemed to be no progress. I am going to try again.
  10. software GPU emulator?

I must be doing something wrong, lol, because it just hangs forever. . . I'll keep at it!
  11. software GPU emulator?

Weird question, or maybe not! I don't game, so the onboard Intel graphics 630 is more than enough for me. But, there is an app I want to use, Whisper, to create subtitles for videos, that runs off of the GPU. I'm half deaf, so this would be a lifesaver program for videos that don't already...
  12. Solved Manually uninstalling Java

Interesting. In the five years or so I've had this system, I've only ever had the 64bit Java installed, and never bumped into any issues. I will keep that in mind if I install any software that requires the 32bit version. Thanks for the tips!
  13. Solved Manually uninstalling Java

weird, I ran the java uninstall tool again this morning, this time it did finish the uninstall, and I was able to install the updated version. No clue what was different than 9 hours ago, but it's done. Thanks to all that read and dacrone for their suggestion!
  14. Solved Manually uninstalling Java

I did try that last night, it wouldn't re-install.
  15. Solved Manually uninstalling Java

Java has updated. I've noticed in the past, installing the latest jre (in this case jre-8u471-windows-x64) over the last one will sometimes end in duplicate installations, so I've gotten in the habit of uninstalling the old copy, before installing the new one. Yet, this time, I seem to have...
