I know some of you use Dell Command | Update, like I do on Dell devices that I manage. I noticed there was a new version (5.5.0), with the following enhancements.
- Enhanced software update mechanism by downloading the driver packages specific to the operating system during the Advance Driver Restore operation.
- User interface refinements with rebranding of the splash screen for Dell Command | Update application.
These sound like relatively minor changes, but then I checked the running processes. Compare this to the 28 MB or so for the service installed by versions up through 5.4.0.
For me, this version is way too bloated for what you get, so I'll be skipping this one unless we find we absolutely need it.
Hi @pseymour . Yes I noticed that the Dell Update 5.5 was available. I'm surprised about this as 5.4 is not being supported any more and Dell appears to be trying to get everyone on to Supportassist. I'm assuming that Dell Update won't be auto updated to 5.5. As an aside, the new version of Supportassist (4.8) is available and seems more stable and error free than previous versions. Mitch.
It changed my Power Plan from High Performance to Dell, and then "the Boss" (wife, Dina) started noticing she had to push the power button to wake from sleep. Back to High Performance, and her Optiplex D7080 is again working as it had been. Go figure!

For what it's worth, if one wants to use Dell Command Update and keep that application updated, it seems we do not have a choice with getting SupportAssist.
I have an Optiplex and use Dell Command Update versiom 5.4. I have it so that DCU does not auto-start and use it strictly on a demand basis so none of the DCU processes hog my ram.
Dell SupportAssist previously was a separate app that came from Dell on this computer and I uninstalled it years ago.
In April DCU reported that DCU itself needed an update. When I ran the update, Dell Support Assist Remediation 5.5 was automatically installed as a plug-in to Dell Command Update 5.4. Dell SA is no longer listed as a separate application in ALL APPS. However, I can uninstall the plug-in.
So it's kind of sneaky the way Dell slipped SupportAssist back on me. Even if I uninstall it, the way I see it, the next update to DCU will just put it back.
