I have Xfinity for internet. Problem I am seeing is my internet speed (wired)will drop to 83.02 Mbps down. This is now suppose to be a 300 Mbps down 10 up. This is using Ookla speed test, Xfinity speed test always shows good speeds can it be trusted? My wireless speeds are all over the place. Which I understand. This 300 package is bad.

Have you tried a few different servers in speedtest? There will be some variation among them. 83Mbps seems a little extreme, though.

I typically get the nominal bandwidth, but it may be due to a lack of competition with my neighbors.

See what you get at 3am. :)

Are your speed test using wired or wifi. If wifi, how close are you to the Gateway? Other devices on the network can also impact the speed.

THIS.

Try a few different servers and run your speedtests in the wee hours of the night. Lower congestion then. :-)

Is your wired connection a gigabit connection or a 100 mps/connection?

I have a 600Mbps package with Comcast (Denver Area.) Currently, we get 800-1000Mbps when testing with fast.com.

As someone else mentioned, speedtest.net can be really bad depending on which server you pick. Try several and if the speed never gets better, contact Comcast and have them check the line.

Sometimes a wrong LAN driver can be the issue. I had a laptop whose wireless speed was like using an old PSTN modem! As soon as I replaced the Microsoft driver with the official Intel driver, boom! Problem solved, Prefer updating the driver directly from manufacturer's download site. Not from Windows Update or any utility such as Snappy. Also use the Windows Update Show/Hide Tool to make sure you block (hide) any driver update, so your working driver won't be replaced.

In addition to what others have said, companies sometimes throttle their speed depending on how much data you're streaming.
@NavyLCDR has a great point about your connection type. Older systems or cheaper systems usually will have 100MB/s connections. I know my 2-year-old motherboard has a 1000MB/s connection. It wasn't cheap, but it's a little older. That's unused, really, because my Internet speed is about 120MB/s download. (I live in a rural setting with slow connection speeds.)

Very old motherboards and laptops have a Fast Ethernet 10/100 LAN card. Most newer motherboards and laptops come with Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000 LAN cards. My 10-year-old Asus P8H61 socket Intel 1155 motherboard has a 10/100/1000 LAN card. So, anything less than 10 years old should not be affected.

You shouldn't complain. Here in Greece a usual speed is 50Mbps or 100Mbps. 200Mbps exists but is rather expensive.

Sometimes a wrong LAN driver can be the issue. I had a laptop whose wireless speed was like using an old PSTN modem! As soon as I replaced the Microsoft driver with the official Intel driver, boom!
That reminds me of Windows 98 and Windows 95, where for broadband, you had to edit the registry for the proper TCP/IP settings, IIRC.
IIRC, Windows 98 SE would on default configuration have much less bandwidth than NT 5 would.

Recently, the worst I remember seeing with the Microsoft driver, was that the upload speed was much lower with Speedtest, until I got the Realtek one from the MSI web site, IIRC. That's with my MSI B450 Tomahawk. (daily driver)

Can you post the stats from your modems stats page? What make/model of modem? You should really be posting on Comcast XFINITY forum | DSLReports, ISP Information as that's where a lot of people can help you with the troubleshooting and then if that looks good, you should send a PM/DM to netcool who is a Comcast National Engineer that can also look at your line stats.

Upload is good now. My modem stats are so-so. Download stats are good BUT upload channels are only 1 channel locked. If i take the splitter out of the equation i have 4 channels locked for upload. I have call Comcast/xfinity and they are dragging their feet. I have more pressing medical appointments right now then to play phone tag with Comcast.

@GrayOldman1
That's good to hear. Post a thread on dslreports and let the people there guide you. Don't call Comcast/XFinity, you should either contact them via Facebook, Twitter directly using Private Messaging as that goes to their Social Media team directly and you will also have everything in writing and be sure to ask for credits.

I live in an apartment complex with over 30 some buildings. Been here over 10 years. This used to be service by Spectrum. About four years ago they started laying fiber to each building. Then nothing for a year or so. Then notice fiber to coax was being install in `the meter closest. Then a notice came out about signing up for Comcast. Went to a meeting and all different speeds were offered. Sales people were not told only 100 down. What a scam. Took it anyway. After about the first year I was bump up to 200 down. I called and question about download speeds since there was fiber run. Could not get an answer. Spend all the money on laying fiber and will not offer higher speeds the 300 down now.
