First of all the account the repair shop created should already have administrative privileges. No repair shop worth it's salt should ever release a computer to a user without at least one administrator account. You stated in post #15 They have created a local account and it has stopped the issue.First question... If I give the local account, (that was created at the IT shop) administrative privileges, can it be used in this test suggested above? Or will I need to create a new local account with administrative privileges?
This tells me it's an administrator account because standard accounts are prohibited from installing software. This also tells me your original account was corrupted. You can check account type by going to settings>accounts. On the right under ACCOUNTS is your account name and account type.
Since you want to use a MS account, let's walk through the steps to get there.
1. go to Settings>accounts>other users Are any additional accounts listed other than the account you are using? Also check Settings>accounts>Family Are any additional accounts listed other than the account you are using? If YES, delete any additional accounts listed. If you have any accounts to delete, restart and then come back to step 2. Otherwise, let's create your Microsoft account. If NO, go directly to step 2.
2. in Settings>Accounts> Other Users.
Select add account> Enter your Microsoft account username>next>enter MS account password
Very Important- Make the new user an administrator. Once account is created, to the right of the new user name click down arrow. Select Change account type.
Click arrow to right of standard user and select Administrator.
You can now restart. On your sign in page should be 2 accounts. Login to your MS account and install something. Let us know if it works.
Yes, you can leave this local account as a fallback method of logging in. I find having a "backup" account a handy method of troubleshooting when needed.Second question... If I set up other accounts to do the test, will this local account, (set up at the IT shop) always be able to be used as a fall back safe account that I will be able to download to, until I get my actual Microsoft account up and running.. The last thing I want now, is to do things here and have it to be implemented across all accounts... and not not be able to download/save on my Local Disk
You device manager screenshot shows no flags of missing system drivers, but expand sound, video and game controller. If all you see is default MS audio, you will need to install your audio driver which is probably Realtek.
