Hi folks
Thank goodness most are really helpful on these Forums -- when I look (now never again as the worst by far without doubt is on Reddit) and even google for a simple command like how to restart a network -- you get so many imbecellic suggestions like -"reinstall hardware,", update system etc etc. Nobody seems to get it through their Dinosaur sized pea brains that if you haven't got a working network - you can't do any of these things.

I solved the problem BTW. Just unplugged and re-plugged the NIC in again !!!!

Anyway again thank goodness people are much more sensible here - but PLEASE no more USELESS LINKS to reddit.

Cheers
jimbo

I would imagine, that all four canopic jars were used.
One each for the temporal lobe, the frontal lobe, the parietal lobe and the cerebellum. :D

So far Windows 11 works good and faster with my newer laptop than my Windows 10 laptop; however, unlike Win-10 where I installed several old MS and other software now, I cannot install those programs. Such as Quicken 2017 (R20.6), Office 2003, Visual Basic 5.0 Pro (1999 vintage) and Paint Shop Pro (vintage 1906). Just kidding, but PSP 6.02 is quite old but still works great on my older Win-10 laptop. I am sure in time these things will be straightened out, hopefully because I am growing fond of Windows 11 for the most part.

Anyone else having similar old software installing problems?

I tried Quicken again and it kind of works but come up with a blank page where the text and stuff should go. My older Win-10 laptop screen is set the same as the new Win-11 one, 1366x768, but will not display correctly. On the pursuit though. Any help would be appreciated. Can't pay, on limited budget in retirement under banana republic.

I'm not a Quicken user so this is not coming from any direct experience with the program, just some guesses at things to try...

Try right-clicking on the icon that you use to launch Quicken and choosing Properties. Go to the compatibility tab. From there you can try running the compatibility troubleshooter or manually select a compatibility mode to see if that will help the situation.

I also saw a post from a user stating that they had Quicken 2017 problems. They contacted Quicken and were provided a HUGE 600+ MB patch that fixed all his issues. The link was not working but I wonder if it might be worth contacting Quicken (assuming they are even willing to support 2017 any longer!).

Thanks much-o hsehestedt, I will follow your advice. I only use Quicken as a standby cooking program. While it nearly works, I'm not satisfied yet and will find a cure for it. Quicken 2017 works great in my older laptop with Win-10 and it has virtually the same hardware, except to CPU, so Quicken should work in Win-11. Something wrong about loading the window full screen may be the problem. Weird problem, so it must be a software bug. Thanks again.

 Well, the speller did it: "standby cooking program" was missed by my old eyes. Help! I meant "book keeping program." Wonder what that speller thinks of us......

Hi folks
What I really get fed up with is if I query how do I "Uninstall xxxx on Windows 11" -- then I get pages of what xxxx is, what it's there for, why it is part of Windows etc -- and on the actual topic almost zilch about 99 pages later.

I'd suggest most people who ask a question on uninstall xxxx or similar know what all that stuff is before they want to get rid of it.

I really appreciate the fact that most posters on these forums assume the poster knows roughly what he / she (or can it also be an "it" in these gender neutral days !!!!) wants or is trying to do and doesn't go through an endless unnecessary preamble.

Anyway the original thing that miffed me about WD and exclusions I've now solved -- so thanks for patience and what "Human" doesn't ever get riled at some point --we'aren't all (at least not yet) robots. !!!!

Cheers
jimbo

I only use Quicken as a standby cooking program.

Jeff,

And there was I thinking you were making a rather neat joke about cooking the books.
I feel disappointed now.

All the best,
Denis
