Solved Accessing another computer

My wife's computer is on the same network as mine. I can connect from it to view files on my computer (e.g. \\apollo\c$) with no problem. Both are in the same workgroup.

I tried accessing \\boris\c$ from my computer and just got a generic 0x80004005 error.

What might I need to do on her (Windows 11) computer to allow me to connect to it and access the network shares.

Do you have at least one file/dir set as shared on your PC?

on her pc, open command prompt as admin and run

That's already set to the value 1 ...

I tried pinging the IP4 address and it didn't reply. When I asked it to ping its own hostname it used the IP6 address.

So I disabled IP6 for the adapter, but that made no difference. Both it and my system both agree that its IP is 192.168.1.139.

It can talk to the internet and get replies so the router can talk to it at that IP ...

Arrgggghhh! It had reset the network to Public Network at the last round of Windows updates! Setting it back to a Private Network, and now all works as it should!
