Adapter for a Sata to usb?

OK guys,
I upgraded my windows drive from a Sata to a new SSD drive.
I want to use the old Sata drive as an external drive plugged into an open USB port.
How do I do this?
Do they sell a Sata to usb adapter?
TIA, Danny D....

You can get an enclosure for any type of drive, Danny. I always make my own externals using enclosures. At least that way, you know what you’re actually getting. I gave up on Western Digital and Seagate years ago.

I like the brand, Sabrent. I have also bought Orico & UGreen. All of them do what they’re supposed to do.

There are two types of SATA enclosures:
For 2.5-inch SATA drives - Uses USB for data and power
For 2.5 or 3.5 inch SATA drives - Uses USB for data and use AC adapter for power.

2.5-inch drives are low enough power that they can be powered by a USB port.
3.5-inch drives require more power than a USB port can provide. That is why the enclosures have a separate AC adapter.

Note the 2.5-inch drives can be either SATA HDDs or SATA SSDs.

They all work

You can even get a powered one (not in a box though - free standing) which are also good for older 3.5 inch drives -- I've found these incredibly useful -- older "Spinners" are very useful for storing offline backups etc etc. You don't need to have hugely fast drives for basic backups, "static data" and even basic multi-media serving. Why send serviceable gear to landfill when it doesn't need to be.

I have a 1TB SATA HDD in a Thermaltake self-powered case. I also have a kit from years ago that I can use with the even older IDE/PATA drives if needed.
