Solved Add new Windows account using existing MS account?

If I create a new Windows account and login using the one I use now, will that cause any problems? Will Windows get confused?

Won't be an issue with my files as they're on a different drive, I can just point back to them and re-sync

There are two main types of Windows users, Administrator and Standard User.

Administrator - Has full, unrestricted control over the computer. Can install apps, change system settings, and manage or modify other user accounts.

Standard User - Can run existing apps and browse the web, but cannot install new software, make system-wide changes, or access other users' files.

When Windows is installed the first user is always of type Administrator. This user can create other accounts. If he does it defaults to type Standard User. Optionally, he can change it to type Administrator.

The profile folder containing the user data is in the C:\Users folder. These folders are used to keep the user data separate from other user data.

When you set up a new Windows PC using a Microsoft Account, Windows automatically generates your C:\Users\ profile folder name using the first 5 characters of your email address.

For example, if your email is [email protected], your profile folder will likely be named C:\Users\johnd.

When you set up a new Windows PC using a local account, Windows automatically generates your C:\Users\ profile folder name using the account name.

For example, if your local account name is johndoe, your profile folder will likely be named C:\Users\johndoe.

Note Windows has a special user whose user name is actually Administrator and has type Administrator. It is hidden so you normally don't encounter it.

For example suppose Bob install Windows 11 starting with a local account called MisterBob. Later he adds user Friend. The users are:

MisterBob - type Administrator
Friend - type Standard User
Administrator - type Administrator (hidden)
