Hi,
Nice I use explorer patcher for the minimal header
Can you add one to remove new bitmap I see no use in this does ms have a hard on for bitmaps and libraries ?

I'm also worried about you

LOL, yeah I do have a lot pinned.

Currently, the usual way to add and remove bitmaps is not working.

Library is option four.

HI Shawn,
I use the new context menu a lot to create these files:
- Windows Batch File
- Windows PowerShell Script
- Rich Text Format
- VBScript Script File

This tutorial did not cover any of these and I did not find any other tutorials either covering them.
On the other hand, you have tutorials for Windows 10 that covered all of the above, which I have and still use on a second Windows 10 computer.

I was wondering if the REG files you have for Windows 10 will work in Windows 11? Otherwise, can I assume you will include these in this or some other tutorial and soon? :wink:

From your response to the first post above, that "usual way to add and remove bitmaps is not working", I got suspicious that your Window10 methods or REG files may not necessarily work in Windows 11?

They should still work on W11, but I haven't tested to confirm yet.

EDIT: Nope. They're not working for W11.

Hi Shawn - some feedback...

In my tests, the Windows 10 REG files for adding Windows Batch File and VBScript Script File worked fine. Are we doing something different?

Concerning Windows PowerShell Script, the Windows 10 solution did not work but I found a solution in another forum which works in my system. The REG commands:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ps1]
@="ps1legacy"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ps1\ShellNew]
"NullFile"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ps1legacy]
@="Windows PowerShell Script"
"FriendlyTypeName"="Windows PowerShell Script"

Concerning Rich Text Format, I had learned in Windows 10 that the Registry changes depend on whether you have Office installed or not. I have Office 365 installed and the following Registry changes from my Windows 10 system work in Windows 11 as well.

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\Word.RTF.8]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\Word.RTF.8]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\Word.RTF.8\ShellNew]
"FileName"="RTFTemplate.rtf"
"NullFile"=""

Along with the REG changes above I copy my own default Wordpad default template named RTFTemplate.RTF into the folder:
C:\Windows\ShellNew

I was trying to figure out how to remove exisiting shellNew entries for a regular (non-admin) user.

I noticed that some of the defaults include a Config key under ShellNew. I couldn't find any documentation about the different values. Does anyone know of any?
By experiment, it appears that adding IsOptin to a Config key makes that option invisible, e.g. (with user rights)

Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\.rtf\ShellNew\Config]
"IsOptin"=""

Obviously once the HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\.rtf\ShellNew\Config key has been created you can add or remove the IsOptin value from HKCR\.rtf\ShellNew\Config

The same technique works for .bmp and .lnk

I did some testing and playing, but I just can't get those items added to the "New >" context menu in build 25300. Only the default items so far.

Hello mate,

If you are comfortable in Registry Editor, you could open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in regedit.

Next, use Edit > Find (menu bar) to search for all instances of the ShellNew key. You can use Edit > Find Next (menu bar) to find the next instance.

When you find a ShellNew key for the file type you want to remove from the New context menu, rename the ShellNew key to something like ShellNewXX. This will remove it from the New context menu. If you should want to restore them to the New context menu, you would just need to rename ShellNewXX back to ShellNew.

A delay to answer you cause i tried all unwanted entries , so :
1) Words entry deleted OK (docx)
2) Not OK : accdb (Access) , xlsx (Excel) , bmp (bitmap) , pdf , pptx (Powerpoint)

I made it for all extensions except mitmap (bmp). Still it not works. Here is how 1:
1) For new Access database files : First a change accdb and it not works. Then i add (the same ShellnewXX) for .mdb. Then it works.
2) I made restarts after trying a file type. At first it didn't work. After 3-4 restarts all work (?!)
