This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the NVIDIA Settings notification icon on the taskbar system tray for your account in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

If your Windows device has NIVIDIA graphics and NVIDIA display drivers installed, the NVIDIA Control Panel is included in the GeForce driver.

The NVIDIA Settings notification icon show on the taskbar system tray by default, and allows you to quickly open the NVIDIA App and/or NVDIA Control Panel.

Strange, editing the registry manually or using the reg file to remove or disable the tray icon on startup no longer seems to work. But that could just be me seeing as how I had recently done a clean removal of the NVIDIA drivers and software with DDU to swap in a new GPU. But it's currently set to

Code:
"StartOnLogin"=dword:00000000

but it persists regardless. Another weird thing is that the old NVIDIA control panel doesn't seem to be included anymore. So that isn't an option.

Hello, :alien:

Just to confirm, did you either sign out and sign in or restart the computer after manually editing the registry to apply?

Yes, but it still persists even after several restarts over the past week or so.
In fact, if I even lock the PC and re-enter my login PIN, the task tray icon reappears.

The NVIDIA Control Panel did indeed get replaced by the NVIDIA app, and may be why the registry setting no longer works.

Check the settings in the NVIDIA app to see if there's one to remove the notification icon from the taskbar system tray.

The NVIDIA app no longer works with my old 1080 TI, so I can't verify.

I'm not sure why it won't work for you @Edwin . No Nvidia App installed, just the old Control panel installed from the MS store.
Doing it this way worked for me to disable the NV tray icon on both mine and my wifes computers using the newest 610.88 drivers.
If you have the new Nvidia App software installed as well maybe that overides the old control panel. Not sure about that.

peace

Even prior to the NV Control Panel being removed from the Nvidia app install bundle, the option to toggle that task tray icon was only present in the Control Panel and it never stuck for me after a reboot, regardless. But the registry edit did, at least until recently.
