This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Open in new tab context menu in File Explorer for all users in Windows 11.

Starting with Windows 11 build 25136 and build 22621.160, the title bar of File Explorer now has tabs to help you work across multiple locations at the same time.

You can right click on a drive, folder, or library location in File Explorer to see the Open in new tab context menu item.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the "Open in new tab" context menu.

This does not prevent users from using other methods to open a new tab in File Explorer.

Microsoft is beginning to roll this File Explorer Tabs feature out, so it isn’t available to all Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels just yet as Microsoft plans to monitor feedback and see how it lands before pushing it out to everyone.

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

That's it,
