I checked for updates less than an hour ago, I found a system update was available, so clicked update. Now the computer is crawling... Just clicking "my computer" takes up to a minute to complete. The login PW screen takes over 10 seconds to open and process, the program launch icon takes over 10 seconds to pop up. All these things should be basically instantaneous.

My computer is fairly new and fairly fast (scores 88th percentile w/Performance Test).:
AMD 5600X
32GB 3200 RAM
M.2 SSD (about 1/2 full)
3060ti

I re-ran Preformance Test and it scored as much as it has in the past. Crystal Disk Info says drives are fine. After about 5 minutes and/or after a particular folder has been opened at least once, it seems to be about as fast as normal. Launching task manager takes over 1 minute, but shows nothing hogging resources too badly, certainly not enough to explain this.

EDIT: I also ran SFC /SCANNOW, didn't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Open a command prompt as admin and run these two commands one after the other...

sfc /scannow

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I did that as well. It found a few errors and repaired them. I then rebooted but it didn't help. I just ran it again, no errors.

OK, "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" seems to have done it. That is a handy tool.

Thanks

I run sfc /scannow fairly regularly just to be safe, rarely does it find an issue. Would it hurt to run Dism commands also?

It's good to run that DISM command if SFC finds errors.

If you use backup software... you should make a backup now.
