Windows 11
Hello.

So I'm not sure if the issue is due to Windows update that I did earlier today or the outage from Apple side that should be resolved by now. But every time I open Outlook it tells me to create an app-specific password and when I do that it tells me that sign in failed.

Screenshot 2023-10-28 223221.png

Windows version 22H2, build 23575.1001.

Does anybody have the same issue? Any fix? I reinstalled and reset Outlook but it still asks me for the password instead of letting me start by adding the account again.

Thanks!

In-App passwords. This is the first post I have seen lately regarding Outlook and iCloud, but if you search (Top Right of page) for Outlook Yahoo (or Yahoo Outlook) you will see people having a bad time trying to add 3rd party email accounts due to the requirement of In-App Passwords. I think the takaway here is the complications, not so much which 3rd party email.
I hope that points you to some answers, it’s all I have for you, sorry.

I already had my iCloud account on the old Mail app so I just had to enter my app specific password again for my iCloud account For it to continue working.
Is iCloud still an option when setting up accounts?
Is the message the same whether using the account or app specific password?
Can you use the same account to log in to iCloud itself?

If iCloud is no longer an option then try setting the account up manually using Apple’s settings:

IMAP information for the incoming iCloud Mail server

  • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
    • If you see an error message when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
  • Port: 993
  • Username: This is usually the name of your iCloud Mail email address (for example, johnappleseed, not johnappleseed@icloud.com). If your email client app can't connect to iCloud Mail using just the name of your email address, try using the full address.
  • Password: Generate an app-specific password.

SMTP information for the outgoing iCloud Mail server

  • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
    • If you see an error message when using SSL, try using TLS or STARTTLS instead.
  • Port: 587
  • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
  • Username: Your full iCloud Mail email address (for example, johnappleseed@icloud.com, not johnappleseed)
  • Password: Use the app-specific password that you generated when you set up the incoming mail server.

What made impossible for me to fix it is that after opening the app I only had the window that requested app-specific password and since it failed I was stuck with that or adding a new account. No way to get to settings or to manage accounts. But I was able to fix it by just adding the suggested outlook account to the app and then removing my iCloud account from the app's settings and then re-adding the iCloud account and removing the Outlook account.
