All of a sudden several things are acting weird, hope someone has an idea what is the cause

Yeah, seems I spoke too soon about Chrome settings to delete all browsing data when closed. They have the setting but it doesn't delete browser data. set it and tested and every website I went to showed up when I opened Chrome and clicked on the search space the standard dropdown came up with the sites I visited to do the test. well Crap!

Now I need to find a cleaner that will do it or go back to Cclener

Wise Disk Cleaner (freeware version)

Check other browsers - Firefox and Brave. Both have specific clean-on-exit settings as well as private browsing options/access

For most folks, Windows Disk Cleanup will do the job.

I use Firefox but my main browser is Chrome and it also have a feature in settings to clean browsing data when you close , It doesn't work! Tried it several times and it keeps the browsing data. That is the only reason I use Ccleaner. I need to find another app that does smart cleaning, by this I mean clean all browsing files when Chrome is closed.

Thanks but I don't want to do it manually, This is why I have bought and been using Ccleaner for several years. I made the decision to not use Ccleaner but I need to find another program that will clean when I close my browsers

Not a fan, MS has built in things in PC Manager to change a lot of customizations back to MS defaults. Win 11 have 90% of what PC Manager offers, just just have to know where in Win 11 they are.

So how does/did ccleaner clean your browser other than manually?

There is an accepted responsibility of owning a computer called "housekeeping" which a user must undertake, sometimes manually especially for additional cleaning. I doubt whether there is a silver bullet that can read a user's mind and know which/what data a user wants to remove or keep. And whilst most browser software distributors might offer token, perfunctory options, they'll only clean what they think a user should get rid of, despite what settings and/or options a user expects.

CCleaner has "smart Cleaning" every time I close a browser it cleans all browsing data which is the only think I use Ccleaner for. I'll include a screenshot of the smart cleaning section and I think it is easy to understand. I'm not looking for anything to read my mind. I am looking for something that can smart clean like Ccleaner. Since CCleaner was bought by Avast there are some security issues, many claim on the web.

Not sure if this might help or not, and I'm still a bit sleepy (just got up), so please pardon if I don't write so well at the moment, but....

I've always cleared everything from Chrome manually. When things have come up in the search box for me after I did a clearing, I noticed it was often because I had those sites/pages bookmarked. Chrome references whatever I'm typing in the search box with my own bookmarks to see if that's what I might be wanting to go to. And, of course, it also tries to help by constantly cross-referencing what I'm typing in the search box with what the most popular/typical searches are for those letters I've entered so far in the box. I haven't examined/tested it closely, so I could be wrong. But during all these years of general use, it never seemed to me like it was keeping my browsing data if I had cleared it. Only that it was doing the cross-referencing with my bookmarks and giving suggestions based on other common searches for whatever I've entered in the box.

E.g. I sometimes read the health and science articles on The Daily Mail's website. After I clear Chrome, if I start to type the homepage address for daily mail in the search box, I might only get as far as typing 'daily' and then it'll be showing me a few of the health articles that I've got bookmarked, plus a few suggestions for what else they think I might be wanting, based on what others typically want by typing those letters. If i don't want the boomarked articles and just want the homepage, I usually have to type almost the entire address for it before chrome will actually show me the link as a suggestion. If it was saving my browsing data after being cleared, then I would think that the homepage for Daily Mail would show up almost right away with typing just the first few characters of the site address... :think:

Yep. That's another thing I do too. And then I don't have to clear the browser, because it clears itself when closed. But @Logical Ron, if you're wanting to leave your browser open (e.g. when hibernating), then maybe incognito wouldn't be a full answer for you either. Maybe you would still be wanting a 3rd-party app.

Yes a third party app is what I need. I can't find one that does what I want without a bunch of other stuff I don't need.

(I use Incognito mode when I know I'll be wanting the browser to fully close. I use regular Chrome [without Incognito mode] when I know that I want to keep certain safe tabs open while hibernating, and in that case, I just manually clear the browsing data before setting the computer to hibernate. I never knew there were any other options than that before reading this thread.)

You could consider a simple powershell script to clear the browser cache, etc.
