Hello everyone, yesterday I subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal, and everything was working fine last night. I woke up this morning, and all my bookmarks were gone, and all my passwords had been deleted. No one has access to my computer or my devices except me. A new feature that appeared in Microsoft Edge is Microsoft Wallet, and now by default new passwords are stored there. However, I don’t have any remembered passwords from my profile, history is there, i'm logged in on mostly of websites. Is there a way to recover my passwords? When i use edge://settings/passwords now redirects me to edge://wallet/passwords?source=passwordssettings with no password saved. In folder AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\ Login data file is 120kb, is there any way to restore all saved passwords?

I can not give you a definitive answer about Wallet. I was under the impression it was added to Edge some time ago ( I don't remember exactly when it showed up in my Edge) and is more a feature for payment and applying coupons to what the user buys (similar to Apple Pay) and not a feature for saving a users passwords. If I used wallet I could tell you more about it, just as if I saved my passwords in my browser I could do the same. However, I don't. I have used a password manager for years.

If the same MS account was used and you have Edge set to sync everything, passwords should not be missing.
You've probably done it already, but check that you are signed into Edge with the exact same account
Check your Edge settings to see exactly what you set up to sync across your devices. Edge>settings>Profile>Sync
Make sure all items are toggled on.
On that same page, scroll down to "resync data on this device" to see if a manual sync will bring your data back.

Thank you for your answer. I have already tried everything but i don't have a solution for that.

I experience the same problem of disappearing Passwords with Edge. I now save (export) them manually and I am therefore able to easily restore them, but its frustrating when it happens.
I'm not certain of the cause, but it may be when I use CC cleaner, I moved to Chrome which is easy to get back back PW and I'm now looking at Duck Duck go -since I'm about done with ad blockers that don't work.

I also have a PC based server with multiple TB of storage acting as a media server and a couple of laptops. All use W11. data backup is via Drive Pool.
I'll tag onto this thread if you don't mind as I spent an hour or more yesterday trying to figure this out. One question at the end :-)

As far as I can tell (and maybe others can add or confirm this) all passwords saved in Edge now 'disappear by design' into the Cloud and are held on Microsoft servers. My MS account seems to have no means of viewing or editing these.

My 'Wallet' of passwords is empty despite me having around 40 to 50 stored login details and I can find no way of accessing them as you could before to either simply view them or edit them. I found a 3 yr old thread at MS where it was mentioned regarding the 'Wallet' that 'as yet there is no way to access them' but that was 3 years ago.

If you enter login details for a new site now then that will appear in the Wallet but only for 24 hours or so and then it too disappears to the Cloud. No mention I can find of this behaviour anywhere.

It seems that MS hold password details separately for the standard Edge and the beta versions such as Edge Dev. I say that because deleting all passwords in standard Edge for example (you must be signed in and Sync on to delete them permanently) has no effect on Edge Dev. They do appear to be handled and stored separately.

Why none of this info is available is beyond me.

Question... is there any way to view and edit password and site details in Edge in the way that you could a little while ago?

@Mooly I can't speak for Dev or Canary. But as long as I am logged into Edge, I see my passwords under settings>profiles>passwords. I use a password manager, but do have 3 saved in Edge.
Per this MS article dated 1/12/24 it says "Microsoft Edge stores passwords encrypted on disk....." It does not differentiate between beta versions and standard version to indicate passwords are stored in the cloud for any version of Edge.

If you can not see you passwords, malware would be suspect. There is a possibility an infection could have deleted and/or compromised your passwords.

This is from Edge 'Beta' which I have as default browser on my main PC. Yesterday I added the login details of four sites that I hadn't used in a while. They were added by visiting the site and entering the login details at which point Edge Beta offered to save them. I accepted.

Those four sites only appeared in the Wallet yesterday. Today they are gone (to the Cloud). How can it report '0 saved passwords' when all are obviously present and working?

Screenshot 2024-02-16 114732.png

I have opened normal Edge on the main PC and making sure Sync is turned on and that I'm signed in I checked all tick boxes for deleteable items (for all time) and doing that as expected cleared everything for normal Edge. No sites have any log in data present and no sites prompt to Autofill the details. It has all gone.

Edge Beta however on tht same PC still works as normal with access to all sites. So deleting Edge credentials has not touched Edge Beta.

On my second test PC (running normal Edge only) all site login details have disappeared (as they should) because I previously cleared them all on the main PC. Sync is on and that is absolutely how it should be.

I have now reentered the login details for all sites on the second PC and find that as used to be the case they are all visible in Edge>Settings>Passwords but for how long.

Will they remain there or will they vanish at some point?

And commenting in real time as it happens... back on the main PC now using Edge Beta (as per the screenshot above) and the Wallet is now fully populated with all those normal Edge details I entered a little while ago on the second test PC.

So same question... how long will they remain on view in the browser?
