Amazon announces new Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Remote

 Amazon News:

Key takeaways

  • From powering on to streaming, Fire TV Stick 4K gets customers to content from nearly 20-40% faster than a similarly priced 4K streaming stick from another leading brand.
  • The Fire TV Remote is designed so key buttons can be found by feel, without having to even look down.
  • Amazon simplifies its Fire TV lineup to three streaming sticks so customers can more easily shop and find the right one for them.

Amazon today announced Fire TV Stick 4K and an all-new Fire TV Remote—the latest in a new generation of Fire TV hardware that started with Fire TV Stick HD earlier this year. Together, they deliver faster performance, a simplified product lineup, and a new, more intuitive remote design.

These launches follow a big year for Fire TV—including the launch of a new Fire TV experience; Amazon’s first-ever lifestyle TV, the Amazon Ember Artline; the launch of Alexa+ on Fire TV now in 11 countries, and making Alexa+ available on Fire TV at no additional cost.

What Fire TV Stick 4K brings to Fire TV's streaming media players

Fire TV Stick 4K is Amazon's latest 4K streaming device, delivering crisp 4K resolution and a fast experience. From powering on to streaming, the new 4K stick gets customers to content from nearly 20–40% faster than a similarly priced 4K stick from another leading brand—the Fire TV Stick 4K turns on faster, apps launch over 35% faster, and content starts playing nearly 20% faster.

Amazon also tested the speed of Fire TV Stick 4K against the built-in experience of three 4K smart TVs from top-selling brands, measuring the average across the three most popular apps on Fire TV. Fire TV Stick 4K played content faster than all three of the TVs we tested.

Check out this video we created to show what the speed comparison feels like between Fire TV Stick 4K, an average of the three 4K smart TVs we tested, and a similarly priced 4K stick from another leading brand.

Like the Fire TV Stick HD launched earlier this year, Fire TV Stick 4K has a new slimmer form factor. Fire TV Stick 4K features Direct Power that lets customers power the device using a TV's USB port with the included cable, which means fewer cables are needed—making it easier to tuck behind a TV or pack for travel.

The Fire TV Stick 4K is built with Amazon’s Vega operating system and comes with Alexa+ and the new Fire TV experience out of the box.

Since releasing the first Fire TV product built on Vega OS last year, Amazon has added over 2,000 more apps, including Spotify, Xbox, VLC, and a range of VPNs. That’s in addition to popular apps customers love to use, like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, HBO Max, Peacock, Tubi, Pluto, Instagram, and more.

The Fire TV Stick 4K comes with 8 GB internal storage, a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, and support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Bluetooth Low Energy. It supports HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, H.265, H.264, VP9, and AV1 video content formats and features 2160p, 1080p, and 720p output resolution up to 60 frames per second.

With the launch of Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon is also streamlining its stick lineup to three clear tiers:
  • Fire TV Stick HD: For everyday streaming—Amazon's most affordable, entry-level streaming stick, launched earlier this year.
  • Fire TV Stick 4K: New core product with crisp 4K resolution, and the best balance of speed and value in our lineup.
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max: For gamers and home theater fans—this powerful stick comes with superior speeds, more storage, and premium features like Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Alexa+ Home Theater.
And, of course, Amazon still offers Fire TV Cube for enthusiast customers who want the best Fire TV streaming product with hands-free Alexa+ functionality and voice control. Other existing models will also continue to be available while supplies last.

Inside the design of the new Fire TV Remote

Fire TV Remote and Fire TV Remote Plus

Alongside Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon is introducing a new Fire TV Remote design. This remote was designed with more tactile controls so it would be easier to hold and navigate key buttons.

The asymmetric shape—a flat top and curved, weighted bottom—was designed to make it quicker and easier to tell which direction to hold it.

The home button—pressed over 100 million times per day on average across Fire TV devices—now has its own distinct metal surface, and other buttons on the remote are indented or distinctly shaped to make finding them intuitive by touch alone.

Previously only available on Amazon’s more premium remote, the new Fire TV Remote has a customizable star button that you can set up so that it goes straight to your favorite app, or to toggle settings like closed captioning or Screen Magnifier.

And like all Fire TV remotes Amazon has shipped, it also has integrated TV controls—so you can control your compatible TV, soundbar, and receiver with dedicated power, volume, and mute buttons. It pairs with all Amazon Ember TVs and all Fire TV streaming media players launched from 2019 to today.

With the redesign, Amazon will also launch the new Fire TV Remote Plus early next year. Featuring distinctive aluminum housing and backlit buttons, Fire TV Remote Plus will replace Alexa Voice Remote Pro.

Fire TV Remote Plus will also come with a built-in Find My Remote feature—just say “Alexa, find my remote” and your remote will play a sound and lead you right to it. The feature works with any compatible Alexa device, the Alexa app, or the Remote Finder button in the Fire TV mobile app.

Pricing and availability

Fire TV Stick 4K is $59.99 and starts shipping today in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and Australia, with additional countries following in late October.

For a limited-time, customers in the United States can get it for $29.99 during Prime Big Deal Days—50% off the regular price. It ships with a Fire TV Remote and comes with Alexa+ and the new Fire TV experience built in.

The new Fire TV Remote is available today for preorder as a standalone option for customers who want to upgrade their existing Fire TV device. It will start to ship in late October for $14.99 in the U.S. Fire TV Remote Plus is expected to launch in early 2027.

I'll stick with my Gen 1 Firestick 4k still working fine. Anyway most of the apps I use are available directly on my LG TV.

Hi folks
DO NOT BUY THESE if you want to sideload apps other than the "officially" supported Amazon ones on them -- they've locked these things out so you can't get into developer mode, change a few settings and then sideload apps.

I have 3 of the older models plugged in to some older TV's where I have KODI installed on these fire sticks so I can stream media from a Linux server to these TV's - Audio, Video and live TV. These work perfectly - and often on even modern TV's it's a pain using the built in apps - plus the fire stick works fine on even non smart TV's so long as they have an HDMI input.

You can't use things like nordvpn (or similar) either so if you want non local TV or access content for which you have paid for and you are say in a hotel room somewhere - tough luck.

I'm sticking with my slightly older but still very good models -- they are still available so when buying just check (and they do also support 4K UHD video if your screens / TV's support it).

@Steve C

UK viewers also beware of these new firesticks if using BBC iPlayer on them -- seems the BBC / Amazon have got together and check if the user if using the iPlayer app on the firestick checks to see if there's a BBC TV licence attached to the user -- not sure how that squares in with the various Data Protection acts - I'm not a lawyer - but it sounds a little bit "Stasi like" to me. The older sticks work just fine - and even on modern TV's the built in apps don't always work as well as the ones loaded externally on things like firesticks etc - plus too many smart modern TV's seem to want you to create an account etc etc !!! and don't have the fastest built in internet -- modern wifi adaptors especially wifi6/7 are faster than most wifi tv's have and better than a lot of basic wired home type LAN which typically run at speeds between 100 and 1000 Mbps

Cheers
jimbo
