Amazon Prime day -- MiniPC's (11th Gen) from €105 !!!

Hi folks
For those who want to do more testing or have other dedicated servers there's a whole slew of mini PC's on sale during their "Amazon Prime days" at incredibly low prices -- even for an 11 Gen Beelink model for just €105 (or equiv currency where you are). These machines are brilliant for anybody not into "Extreme gaming" -- typical "Officy stuff", media streaming, file sharing and even running a couple of VM's work brilliantly and they all run natively 2 monitors (4K UHD) ,have the latest wifi spec plus Lan port, Audio port, plus at least 2 USB3 and usually a USB C port too. Windows 11 PRO is often included as well (that's itself at normal retail worth more than the cost of the PC). -- What's not to like -- I've just bought 2 more. !!! I'm going to use 1 purely as a dedicated "Backup" server and another one as an Internet gateway for my small home based business / web e-commerce.

I've run a number of these 24/7 for ages - I don't think there's any problems with their reliability -- in any case if you want to be absolutely sure buy 2 -- still cheap enough !!! They also run any modern Linux distro -- easily.

There's zillions of uses for these tiny boxes plus they can be easily attached to the back of a monitor so you don't even see them at all !!!!!.

Nice idea, but if I had one more monitor or PC running in my home, the Environmental Protection Agency would put out a warrant for me. 12 Monitors running already.

Is that why Power systems all over W.Europe are struggling because you are using all the planet's spare energy capacity currently. !!! Hate to see your bills - you could probably pay off OZ's national debt - surely !!!!!.

Not sure what the AUS $ is compared with ISL Kr - I usually use the € for comparison's -- although not official here it's widely accepted and is a reasonable measure against other currencies

If I take OZ $ vs € (1 OZ Dollar is around € 0.6 which I use instead as the Isl kronor isn't a well known or used currency - and the € is widely accepted) -- you are paying more than about 70% of the standard state pension here at retirement just on energy !!! and the pension here isn't bad at all compared with a lot of places -- UK and Portugal being probably amongst the poorest for non public service employees -- although UK does have decent tax efficient systems for people to maximise their own "pension pots".

So your Energy bill is around €840 a month a UK basic state pension is around €270 a week and you need 35 years to qualify for full amount to get it -- most don't have anything like 35 weeks of qualification so amounts for the average are much lower -- maybe even half !!! !!! , Portugal is lower still though !!!! -- well your bill is HUGE. Mine is around €35 a month !!!! !!!!!!!

Hi folks

Here's a typical thing you can connect to one of those "Mini PC's" -- using 2X external 2 bay hubs where I've attached bog standard HDD spinners -- although DO use at least 7200 RPM ones with proper fast cache !!

Been running tests on it 24/7 for at least 3 months running Linux -- absolutely no probs !!! Just did a reboot a few minutes ago to add another storage device !!!




I'm a HUGE fan of these things !!!

Just ordered one of these little boxes from Amazon. It's going to manage a video system for my train room.

Boo Hoo. My electric and gas bill is typically around $400, and that IS every month!

I'd gladly take that discount.

Gas isn’t included. I have to pay for gas separately

In summer, my gas bill isn't much, but in the winter it jumps up a bunch.

I'd consider a Mini Pc to replace my Gaming Laptop, provided current Laptop desk can support the 1080P Spare Monitor i have around, and really only need it capable of Running SecondLife, in case Main PC is ever down, other than that, i don't game too much even on the Gaming Laptp these days

Laptop PC desk looks like this

Desktop desk was updated to a better type of desk back last July 2024, unforuately Laptop desk still same one at this point. I think if that hutch can hold the 24inch monitor without it sliding off, i might be ok with a Mini Pc on that desk in the future, do have spare keyboard and mouse available
