Hi,

While in the BIOS, I saw a raid option. Then in drives of 2.
I have the option to install another SSD, should I get a Samsung Evo 1TB as a D drive vs partitioning the present 512 GB?
Will it slow the system?
Pros and cons of another SSD?

Thanks.

By all means, get another SSD, if there's a place to connect it. If not... get an external SSD.
I would avoid RAID though... it's a pain in the butt and not necessary anymore.

It will NOT affect system performance.
Any Samsung xxxxxx Pro is an excellent choice. Just make sure the connector/size (physical), is right.

For example... there are different thickness SSDs. Like... 7mm, 9mm etc. (not sure if this even matters anymore, but...)

Thanks for the expert advice.
I'll get a 1TB Samsung, to have it as a D backup drive.
Never knew the laptop has the option for 2 SSDs
Thanks again.

You can do RAID on just about any computer...but, it's a pain.
With SSDs and backup software, most home users have no need for RAID.
It was only really needed back in the day of slow HDDs, or in places like Data Centers.

I guess JBOD might still be useful on a desktop comp, if you have a pile of hard drives (internal or external), that you want to run as one big drive.

Thanks.

For any given model of SSD... the 1TB to 2TB drives are the fastest.
They are a bit slower at the 128 or 256 or 512 sizes.

Also... generally, get the largest capacity drives you can afford... you WILL use the extra space.
Even if at present, you can't think of the need for a bigger drive, when you get one, you WILL think of a way to use the extra space.
Also... whether desktop or laptop... there are only so many hookups for drives.

Let's say you get a 2TB SSD... one day you'll be sitting there and think.. 'oh hey, I can save copies of all this or that, for handy accessibility'.

I used to run 1TB storage drives on my desktop.
Hasn't been 3-4 years and I'm up to 4TB and 8TB storage drives.

And the 4TB is starting to fill up...
(the 8TB is just a copy of the 4TB)

Note that the 970 PRO is a M.2 NVME drive. Make sure that your MB or laptop is Capable of that, and has enough ports.

EDIT
The Dell Inspiron 15 5510 has 2 NVME ports.

You mean to imply larger size are faster.. correct.
The Inspiron 5510 came with a 512.
So 1TB would be good choice?
It's an internal not a USB option for the 2nd.

Thanks.

Yes it's M2. NVME supported.

Not a LOT faster, but for any given make/model of SSD, the sweet spot for speed is in the 1TB to 2TB range.
