Any difference between these 2 models of Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD?

Hi, I am looking at buying the 2TB version of the Samsung 990 Pro.

There are 2 listings on Amazon, which show the same 2TB drive but with slightly different model numbers and also about a £20 difference in price.

The model numbers and links are:

V9P2T0B/AM​

MZ-V9P2T0BW​


Does anyone know if there is any difference between them, and if I am better getting a particular one?

No idea, different production/sales areas? The BW model is the one Amazon UK are selling, personally I would order it direct from them

During a shortage of chips, Samsung created an analogue chipset "/AM" that includes rare earth metals that are different from the original.
In terms of performance, Samsung makes sure that they are the same.
So it most likely depends on when or from which country the seller bought the stock depending on the stock available at the time of purchase.

Samsung's own spec sheet has the one set of specs covering both model codes.

Edit: There is an alternative explanation for the model codes, that of packaging and warranty, B/AM is for the Americas market and BW is worldwide.

The BW code means the drive ships in a retail box with worldwide warranty, B/AM means retail box for the Americas region, E means an OEM (usually white box) drive which may come without a warranty.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. It appears the MZ-V9P2T0B/AM version had an older controller/firmware with some problems.

So the second one is presumably the latest where that has been fixed with new controller/firmware.

As much as this may be true, they fixed the issue with Firmware update 1B2QJXD7. There would only be an issue with stock bought before this flaw was recognized, after discovering the flaw, they continued to sell the same model. The same model was sold with an updated firmware.

The model name difference is not as a result of this.

While that was true, the B/AM code has nothing to do with that. It is solely a regional packaging/warranty code for the Americas region. It has been used by Samsung for years now, here's an example for the 850 EVO from 2018.
