Solved Anybody else finding Win X Menu Editor doesn't work after 22000.527?

Following Brink's instructions, I was able to restore the Win X menu to only the entries I actually use by editing the two WinX folders (in <username> and <Default>), and giving it a trial-and-error go. But the trusty Winaero WinX Menu Editor didn't work, even after I used it to restore defaults (the update had already restored all of the defaults) and then removed all of the things I don't want in that menu and added the two things I do want that are not in the defaults, and restarted Explorer.

Anybody else having this difficulty? (The app hasn't been updated in four years, so far as I can tell, so It's not surprising that it might have problems coping with both W11 and new versions.) Just trying to confirm that my experience isn't unique.

try to use this win+x editor. i created this .exe for you. i hope it works fine
I am fascinated by this, giusan. First, it opens in Italian, then it shows an English interface that looks like a much more sophisticated but essentially identical (in controls and options) version of the Winaero utility. And at the top, it implies that I have to register it, but it gives me no options for doing so.

You said you wrote it for me. Would you care to clarify why it starts up in Italian, switches to English, and tells me I only have 20 days to register it but gives me no registration information?

Mine also broke in a recent Windows Update.
Winaero Win+X Menu Editor still works well on Windows 11 for me, but I see that you couldn't get it to work.
It's just a GUI for hashlnk.exe which Brink has a tutorial about here.

Whether you use hashlnk.exe or Winaero Win+X Menu Editor, I think you first need to check the correct shortcuts are in the correct location. I posted about some of the locations in this post here when I was trying to understand the problem. It might give you a clue to your problem. I only had problems with Group3, but you can change the path to Group1 or Group2.
In my opinion, the Win+X Menu is a bit of a mess. What makes things more confusing is that the default executables and shortcuts can be found in multiple locations, but you need to have them in the correct location before pointing the Win+X Menu at them.

For default apps, you may also need to check your App Paths at this Registry location.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths
Are they set to the following?
%localappdata%\Microsoft\WindowsApps

Thanks for the input, friends.

@giusan70 , I really like the Win X part you sent me first. I'd rather just keep that and use it when I need to correct changes made by Windows updates. Is there a way I can continue to use it without registering? Can I install the whole Yamicsoft program and use only the Win X part? Thank you very much for your help with this minor problem.

You can send me a private Message if you'd rather not post anything about registering the program.

I got around to testing the Yamicsoft Win + X Menu Editor component of Yamicsoft Windows 11 Manager. It works very well.
And yes, you can just use the one component of the program as they are all separate executables, but you'll have to register the entire program.
There is also a portable version, but it still requires registration after the trial has elapsed.

Hi Wisewiz.
I've never mentioned nor posted that above word on this forum ever.
I don't know how you misconstrued my post, but I wasn't even thinking about it in my reply to you.
I told you that you need to register it, which you do.

Just saying.

I didn’t misconstrue your post, my friend, and I didn’t accuse you of anything. All I wanted to do was caution you about the user who brought Yamicsoft to this forum. I think it was our boss John z3r010 who checked and found evidence of piracy in the software. I’m sorry you thought I was implying that you were complicit in anything. Thank you for being polite in your response to me.
