Anybody Notice that Thunderbird 155.0 Screwed Up Filters?

I installed Thunderbird 155.0 and immediately noticed that all the stuff in my Inbox was gone! Yikes, that's not supposed to happen! Turns out that the update randomly added an extra step to a couple of filters with a blank criteria. This results in all the stuff going to whatever destination that filter is moving stuff to! Once I figured it out, I searched and found the missing messages and moved them back. I thought I was done. The next time a new message came in, all the messages disappeared again!

Turns out that the update had corrupted two filters with the same issue, and the one that was running first was the one I found. I located the missing Inbox messages again in a different folder and fixed that filter.

If you're using TB and missing your inbox contents, that's where they went.

I am not having any issues with Thunderbird 155.0. My emails go to the inbox, spam to the spam.

No, I did NOT have any filters with a blank criteria before I upgraded to 155.0. They just appeared, and the only reason I noticed is all the contents of my Inbox disappeared! I initially thought somehow they were deleted, but then when a new test message didn't show up in the Inbox I did a search and found where they were going.

@gunrunnerjohn, I had precisely the same problem and I resolved it the same way you did. I had posted my issue to the Mozilla Forums. So far, I know only three people—you, myself and one other person on the Mozilla Forum—who have run into this problem. I wanted you to know that you are not alone.

I figured it must have been something about the update that triggered it, as soon as I updated to 155.0, all my inbox email disappeared! At first I thought they were totally gone, but after doing a couple tests, I found where they were being shuttled off to. It was a pretty weird glitch, that's for sure!

I hope they fix it before the next update, I don't want to have to go searching for my emails again!

@gunrunnerjohn, Same here. I woke up to an empty TB Inbox and thought, well, that's odd, and then noticed that the message count in my Spam folder was through the roof. Coincidentally, I checked and found that TB had auto-updated to 155.0. And thus began my odyssey.

I don't normally keep much in my Inbox, I have filters for many things that disperse messages to individual folders. However, there's always half a dozen or so messages there that I haven't dealt with yet or I leave them to remind me to take care of something. When they were all gone, I knew something was up. It was fairly simple to track down, I created an email with a unique subject content and sent it to myself and then looked to see where it went. I never realized that a blank search string would equate to ALL! IMO, that should probably be an invalid search string, it doesn't really make sense.

From the release notes for 155.0.1, the issue marked as fixed was: Empty filter search values matched every message.

The more disturbing issue, to me, was the changing of filter rules with no user input. Maybe they fixed that too, although you cannot tell from the description provided.

Yep, they slipped in that fix to mine, but I had already "fixed" my filters and I didn't even notice. WinGet actually updated Thunderbird while I wasn't looking.
