Solved Anyone ever figured out how to get Red Dead Redemption 2 to work on Windows 11?

As the title states I purchased a windows 11 laptop with high end specs with the intention of playing games on higher settings than my old laptop.

Old laptop:
i7 11375h quad core processor
RTX 3070 [85w]
16gb ram
1tb ssd
Windows 10

New Laptop:
i7 12700h
RTX 4070 [140w]
32 gb ram
2tb ssd
Windows 11

I can't get RDR2 to work for anything. The closest I got was getting the game to launch but it crashed upon waiting for single player to get installed and never booted back up after that. Just loading screen then black screen and crash.

Anyone know how to get this game to work?

You could try verifying.

Go to settings in the Rockstar Game Launcher (I believe it’s a Cog icon at the top right)
Choose Redemption
Click “Verify blah blah blah (I think it’s Verify Integrity? I’m not at my computer, sorry)
Watch it whilst it verify’s because it asks for your interaction if drivers/software is needed to be installed, like DirectX.
(It basically installs that stuff every time you verify, I believe its a standard thing to have happen)

If you don’t watch and wait, when you get back the verify bar will be red, you can click on the red bar and it will ask you to approve the installs

I’m pretty sure that’s how it works, it is for GTAV

Sign in to the Rockstar Games Launcher. Navigate to Settings. Select the game you wish to verify from the list under My installed games on the left. Select Verify Integrity under Verify game file integrity from the options on the right.

It’s just repeating me, but legibly 😄

Rockstar games still rely on older directX models I believe, which I’s why they’re installed when verifying the game integrity, I believe.

If you’re using Rockstar Games within the Steam App, verify the game via this process below.

For some reason, Rockstar Games (the ones I’ve played/have) use older versions of DirectX SDK that are no longer installed in Windows 11 by default, therefor they need to be added via a verify integrity process.

Edit: During A Rockstar Game Platform Integrity check, It will also most likely add Microsoft Visual ++ 2005
I am not sure if Steam will do so, it should or the game most likely wont run correctly - Please don’t quote me on this, it’s just my experience.

I have RDR2 working fine on my Windows 11 desktop PC. Check you are using the latest GPU driver.

And for future reference I'm running the game on Rockstar Launcher, I didn't purchase it for Steam.

Give the Verify Integrity a whirl, basically it’s the same as reinstalling. It can save you time and Data.
There will be more than one occasion that you might think you have problems, or problems arise. Often after updates.

When you contact support, the very first thing they tell you to do is “Verify Integrity”
9 times out of 10 it fixes issues.

No such luck following all responses. Only thing I can find online is that Microsoft screwed the game up with an update, corrected it and then came out with another update that ruined it again. Now my only option is to wait for a sale and try to buy it on steam. The article I read said it was related to the Rockstar Launcher version not working.

I don’t understand the error/fault with Rockstar Launcher. I use it daily. And really I mean daily.

You’ll need to point the steam install to a different location (easily done) Or remove the current game files/folder or just uninstall.

I already deleted the game files from rockstar and RDR2.

It's odd because all of my other Rockstar games run fine on rockstar launcher. I have the GTA Definitive Trilogy, GTA IV and GTA V.

No luck at all. Just requested a refund on steam because the game launches via the rockstar launcher and still crashes.

Never.
Post in the support link I gave you, that link is community support now but none the less it is support. There is a direct Rockstar support also, but it seems harder and harder to find these days.

It’s the new business model for major companies now, create a product and let the community do the support as apposed to the company. Another forum that springs to mind, notorious for this is Squarespace (and so many others)
