Solved Anyone ever figured out how to get Red Dead Redemption 2 to work on Windows 11?

No luck at all. Just requested a refund on steam because the game launches via the rockstar launcher and still crashes.

I admit defeat.
I haven't used RDR2 for a while on my W11 desktop PC. I started the Rockstar games launcher today which updated itself then immediately did a large RDR2 1.5GB game update download to update the game to build 1491.50. All works fine.

The only time it ever worked for me is when I tried installing and playing it off of a fresh factory reset. Makes me think something is wrong with the the file system or registry.

Even then all that happened was the story button wouldn't work and I restarted the game only to be met with a small black window that crashed immediately.

You could possibly do some hardware tests, unles you have any high end games you play on the laptop that work fine?
That game is so old, as is GTAV, it runs on my old PC.

Every other game I own runs great. All GTA Games, All Bethesda Games, All EA Games. Device Manager shows all drivers are up to date. Rockstar support has been no help at all. Just some person who runs down a checklist of possible solutions that never work.

What is logged in Event Viewer and Reliability History?
I checked event viewer this morning after shooting the video and there's no logs that correspond with the launching of the game.

EDIT:
Just checked reliability history as well. No logs involving RDR2.exe or the Rockstar Launcher. It's logging all sorts of stuff in relation to other games and game clients but Rockstar and RDR2 might as well be ghosts.

Which GPU driver are you using? If the latest version is giving problems then reverting to an older driver might work. NVidia sometimes introduces bugs on new updates which have problems with certain games.

Also try turning off third party stuff which loads e.g. using Autoruns to check for a software conflict. You could boot to safe mode to check if that works.

Good to hear. I had an issue with my RTX 2060 Super NVidia GPU driver last year and had to stay on an old driver for 6 months before NVidia fixed it.
