Anyone Got Start10 to Work? OpenShell Works For Me.

So now that Microsoft has killed the classic mode option, I am trying some third-party alternatives. Start10 doesn't work for me (it sometimes (but not always) shows a start button in the lower left, but clicking on it does nothing). I see that on Stardock's forums one person reported getting it to work after doing something with WindowBlinds but it didn't work for me.

OTOH, OpenShell works pretty flawlessly. As long as I align the taskbar icons to the left, the custom Start button covers the Windows 11 Start button and clicking it brings up the OpenShell Start Menu.

I've tried Startisback and OpenShell since the first leaked ISO, tried StartIsGone after the first Insider Build, but they are not working like it was in Windows 10. In Windows 11, those apps just co-exist with the original start button from the new Taskbar.

I haven't try to combine this method here:
Windows 11 Uncombined and Unlocked Taskbar

And then installing StartIsBack. Hopefully it will works.

I tried both StartIsBack++ and Open-shell and only the latter works. The first one locks up if you right-click it.

So Start10 apparently works if: A.) You enable the old taskbar with a registry tweak or WinAero B.) You don't use the "Windows 10 Style" design -- "Windows 7 style" and "Modern style" both work.

Thats interesting, will have to give that a go. Which reg key do you modify?

EDIT

Works well with WinAero and got rid of two icons on the right.

The down side of this is that the taskbar clock disappears but I have it on my other screens so not much of a problem to me.

I use a combination of OpenShell and ExplorerPatcher together and you can still get the win 11 start menu as well if you want it ....worth a look
