We've had Starlink for about 3 years, no issues (thanks to a very helpful tip on here as we had terrible 3mbps broadband before that). As mentioned recently, the Starlink router died. Support (Grok - although I didn't realise it was Grok at the time), asked a few questions then said yes it seemed to be the router at fault and new equipment was being shipped. So I thought a new router was being sent out.

Emails suggested a whole new generation 3 kit was being sent out. And that's what happened. Which is quite nice of them except we paid to have the generation 2 dish professionally mounted on the roof. So now have to install a new dish!

Generation 3 router won't work with generation 2 dish. And generation 2 dish won't fit on the starlink long bracket we bought 3 years ago.

So ordered an adapter for the bracket - which we're still waiting for. Starlink did refund the cost of the bracket and give a month free (we haven't had internet for 10 days), but it's still going to cost to get someone to install the new dish.

The teenager is getting depressed about it after 10 days with just mobile data. So half thinking of just putting the new dish on the ground and running the cable through the window temporarily just to get it set up.

Been through this process before and I know how to connect it all up but - there's this business with the app scanning the sky. As we already have a dish that's had no issues and an open rural view, do I need to bother to scan the sky or can we just plonk the dish in the right place like the existing dish?

Only thing is it's really quite windy here at the moment and the little stand on the back of the dish wouldn't be easy to weigh down.

Usually the Dish is Pointed at a certain Compass Heading and at a certain Elevation (For Best Signal)...
Which is most likely what the App, Helps with..

Thanks. Weather too bad to have it on the ground right now anyway. I'll wait for the pole to come and get it fitted properly.

Been very happy with Starlink until the router died. But it's not as simple as just adding any old new router so left us a bit stuck temporarily.
