I did a 47 GB backups yesterday

Macrium Reflect VX - 47 seconds

AOMEI BackupperPro (V8.0.0) 2 mins 42 seconds.

This stuff always reminds me of Furniture sales on TV -- Buy now because offer will close on Monday etc. Who ever in the whole history of TV advertising has EVER paid full price for any sort of furniture -- particularly DFS / DUNELM /SCS etc and the like. If you have paid full price then you've been 100% conned. !!!

As for backup times --if it's just the OS and you've set it up so most of your data is NOT on the OS partition - does it really matter if a backup takes 40 secs or 40 mins. It's not as if you do this stuff daily -- or if you do you perhaps should need to run multiple windows versions so you can test new software / hardware out without crashing a "production" or daily use type system.

Also all these people give backup times -- but how long are the RESTORE times. I've seen situations where backups complete with no errors etc - but on restore all sorts of errors come in.

Whatever system backup you use ALWAYS CHECK that a restore works !!!!

The backup times isn't the key factor for me. I have AOMEI Backupper Pro and use it a lot and always it is reliable and has never let me down. Don't care if XYZ backup software is faster.

Thanks for the additional info folks.
Backup time comparison is helpful. I do not have the OS partitioned separately so this matters to me.
But of course restores have to work. Using Macrium for many years and fortunately they always have worked.
I was considering purchasing the Aoemi package but will likely only sty with Macrium. (Renewal time approaching.)
I still have older versions of Macrium that I could resort to but I do like Macrium X.

As for backup times --if it's just the OS and you've set it up so most of your data is NOT on the OS partition - does it really matter if a backup takes 40 secs or 40 mins. It's not as if you do this stuff daily -- or if you do you perhaps should need to run multiple windows versions so you can test new software / hardware out without crashing a "production" or daily use type system.

Also all these people give backup times -- but how long are the RESTORE times. I've seen situations where backups complete with no errors etc - but on restore all sorts of errors come in.

Whatever system backup you use ALWAYS CHECK that a restore works !!!!

Well Macrium Reflect (by default) does Rapid Delta Restore, AOMEI only does full restore.

Re. backup times difference of a few minutes (not 40 minutes lol) may be acceptable to some. Not for me as I do a lot of testing.

With regards of checking a restore, you can shoot yourself in the foot by testing it if it fails.

The safest check method is to do a restore to a virtual hard drive, create a boot entry and then boot vhd.

Why not try the free version and do a test backup. See if you like the interface and the way it operates.

Hopefully you will never need to do a restore. I know many people who have never needed to.

There is an older free version that stil has features that were later moved to only the pro and above, I think it might be version 6.9.1 from memory or possibly 6.5

I might have a look if I get a moment.

With my fancy pe ( boot media for recovery, repair etc ) I keep most programs on the usb stick. The pe finds them and links them to desktop or start menu.

One advantage is they can be easily added to or updated on the usb stick.

Here is the folder called USBprograms on the usb stick

the Aomeibackupperx64 folder contains the 6..9.1 standard edition

But I have 8.0 tech version installed on my current system

to add that to the usb stick

while in windows plug in the usb stick

run the get-backupper-files.cmd file

and it will rename the old Aomeibackupperx64 folder ( can be deleted manually later if desired)

and it will find and add the currently installed version of backupper ( in my case that is new 8.0 version )
