backup options other than Macrium?

In Macrium I never use the Scheduler. Once I have set up a backup I make sure the the box to save a Backup Definition is ticked....

View attachment 33322

Then I can manually run the same backup whenever I want from the existing Backup Definition file, either as a Full or Differential backup.

Hi Bree,

Will this work with a flashdrive? It's all I have for now?
I agree. I don't like scheduled backups either.
I don't even want to make a backup, until I'm sure everything is clean and working properly.

It doesn't get much easier...

Macrium Reflect User Guide...
https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v8/user_guide/macrium_reflect_v8.0_user_guide.pdf

Macrium Notes:
1. A full OS image backup will be approx. 1/2 the size of the total "used space" on the C:\ drive.
2. Backing up takes about 75 seconds for every 20GB of "used space" on the C:\ drive. (on my computer)
Ok Ghot, I'll try this again and thanks so much for the guides.

Why not just create a bootable drive and backup to .ffu file format manually? Decent compression. Can backup to an external drive.
Way to go - suggest a method that requires a moderate command of text based command lines to an inexperienced person!

Here is why not - inflexible, requires moderate knowledge of command files, difficult to restore to different sized drives, no ability to handle single partitions - need I go on.

FFU is not designed for domestic users - it is more geared to corporate users.

You got that right, I am freaking lost here. I was just running on borrowed time in the last 30 years using PCs and not backing anything up, never even tried any software for that. Now I'm 69 years old, and that includes my brain.

Open File Explorer, and right click your C:\ drive and choose: Properties
We need to know how much "used space" there is.

As I mentioned above... the backups will be about 1/2 the size of the used space on the C:\ drive.

No need to. Once you have ticked the drives/partitions you want included you can skip Next completely and just hit Finish. Nothing could be easier.
Oh Lord, this is the best one I see so far, LOL!! I can do this, I think. Macrium has a way of popping up windows that totally are way over my head. I'll go look and see if I can get this done now @fixer

I think I got brain overload, and I really did learn my lesson the hard way, that is, not backing up my PC. Eventually I'll get an external HDD. I had that, plus a new SSD on my PC, tons of space to keep backups on the HDD. I'm taking the PC down to have the shop that's here in town look at it and give me an estimate. Even after a clean install of Windows 10, used Rufus to get the ISO file to the flashdrive, all went well. The the BSOD showed up and it kept freezing even after that. We (a great guy from HP Forum support) worked with me for 2 days).

So after it failed again, I put it away, lol until I can have it checked. I know I'll feel a lot safer once I am familiar with backing up. Thanks to everyone's input (and patience) here

2. Backing up takes about 75 seconds (on my computer), for every 20GB of "used space" on the C:\ drive.
This is excellent, especially the images, I admit I had a hard time keeping up with the replies, but there is a lot of valuable info here for a newbie like me at backing up with Macrium  Thanks again

I'll take a look @Ghot. It's sounds simple, for someone like me, but if Macrium works on this backup I'm doing today, then probably stick with it, for now atleast

Ok I skipped everything after Destination Folder so hopefully, I'll see the backup file on my Flashdrive when it's done
Should work just fine but would you know how to restore it should the need arise? You need a small bootable flash drive which you create within Reflect. You can't use the flash drive with the backup on it.

I personally use Aomei Backupper, I use the Pro version as I still deal with the occasional client backup and Aomei is on the list of acceptable options.

The backupper has a wide set of options and is relatively simple to get used to - may be worth a look for your needs

They both do the same job, pretty much.
AOMEI, just has a whole lot fewer buttons. :)

@Ghot
One feature I like with the Pro Backupper is the automatic sync on attachment for external drives. saves an awful lot of work when I've been away on a job
