The BBC has announced it is to stop downloads from pcs and macs from iplayer.

This has upset many people, particularly people in areas with poorer internet and train/plane travellers.

I use it a lot as I use subtitles, and subtitles sync better with audio in the downloaded versions (same on Amazon Prime). When viewing online, the subtitles are often a couple of seconds out of sync.

This is a shockingly bad decision from the BBC who are a public service.

Whichever self important pompous idiots who made this decision should be sacked immediately.

The "overgruppenfuhrers" try and justify it saying you can download on a mobile phone but that is hopeless for things that need a decent sized screen e.g. sports, wildlife etc.

The BBC was once the jewel in the crown. What a joke they are becoming. We all know why the BBC is in serious decline - the dreaded W word!

IMO, it is time the BBC was sold, saving us megabucks in the licence fee.

As an aside, I do not know if this will affect get_iplayer.

Sad News although maybe not all is lost. You could try Projecting your android mobile phone screen to your PC. That way, whatever is on your phone's screen becomes visible on your PC's screen. The Forum Tute for doing that is this one:

Of course, I am assuming you got android phone, rather than iPhone :eek1: .

The other suggestion I was going to make was to use the WSA (Windows Subsystem for Android) and run the android app from Windows. However according to the Evening Standard, this is already known not to work.

The BBC has been clamping down in recent years. Earlier they stopped you using their News and Weather android apps unless you create an account and log on. Well I wasn't going to do that, so I ditched the BBC. Since then, I am using the ITV News app and a different Weather app.

So long as get_iplayer works, I can bypass the constraints.

Thanks for your ideas but as I said best sync of audio, subtitles and audio is on downloads.

I wasn't aware of get_iplayer. I'll bare that in mind for future reference :loveit: Maybe you could remember my suggestion, in case get_iplayer stops working.

Yes, I meant download to phone and project phone to PC, then play thru phone app onto PC.

get_iplayer is great but never quite sure how legit it is - I have a TV licence so I guess it ok.

Well I can confirm get_iplayer from github still works even though you can no longer download programmes in BBC Iplayer on Windows.
