Best way to cancel a pending 25H2 update, waiting for restart to complete installation

I was a bit too late to pause the update, so it's now sitting in pending state for the 25H2 installation, waiting for a reboot to complete . I'd like to cancel it back before the installation trigger, if that's possible ?

While searching, I came across a similar case, I was hoping could this be the right approach here?

You should probably just let it update to 25H2.
End of Life for 24H2 is... October 13, 2026

If you're NOT on one of the Insider channels, 25H2 is pretty rock solid.
Even ON the Insider channels, it pretty solid.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
I would let it finish, and then use the Rollback option.

However, as @Ghot said, EOL for 24H2 is near, which means security updates stop after that.

Maybe it's time to just let the update go ahead after all, taking @Ghot word on "25H2 is pretty rock solid." Given the circumstances, it's probably best to do a backup image before upgrading

I've had 25H2 running flawlessly on an unsupported machine for over a year now.

It's always prudent to do a drive image before doing Windows updates, or upgrades

Too late now. It's already almost completely installed.
The risk is much higher, trying to stop the restart.

I guess you could make a backup from within Windows, but it will still have 25H2 pretty much installed.

As mentioned above... I've been running 25H2 since it came out, and I'm now on 26H2... one or two very minor issues (past tense), and solid as a rock. And I'm on a computer I built in 2020.

You are on a modern (loved by MS and manufacturers everywhere), computer.
Assuming we're talking about the one in your specs. :-)

And, after this latest 26H2 update... zero defects...

Though that may be true to some degree, it's still in staging, waiting to be installed. Sneaky move by MS though

So I would let it complete, then use the Rollback function...which will return to 24H2.

Image the drive.

Then, upgrade to 25H2.

And this baby will take you (3 seconds and a reboot), to 26H2... I love me some Enablement Packages. :D

Even though it says: Insider Release Preview... it worked fine on my non-Insider build. :-)

Sounds good!

I brought this up last time too about whether 25H2 would wipe out the debloat script that's on 24H2. I believe @garlin went into more detail on it and mentioned that if some apps were removed, it shouldn't be necessary to re-run the script ,unless there are 25H2-specific tweaks that the script doesn't already cover
