Solved Big favour to ask regarding an Edge removal script reversal.

Hi

I successfully used a script from Github to remove Edge, it certainly worked, even with Windows updates it remains gone.

Near the top of the script there are ## Helper references for reversing the script, but I don’t understand it, not even in the slightest. There seems to be no othe way to install Edge. The script worked too well.

Would someone be good enough to take a look at it for me and compile a reversal? It’s possibly a big ask I know, I would be grateful

Way above my level of understanding. maybe not 10 years ago, but certainly now with my scrambled brain.

I tried that download, thank you, it seems to (like all the others) stop the install process half way through. I am assuming due to something in the script. And as much as there is a Microsoft Edge icon in my start menu, neither Edge or co-pilot will start. I've run sfc /scannow & DSIM and I'd sooner avoid a repair upgrade because eventually I plan on re-installing Windows Eleven without the Windows 10 backbone. It's just a time availability thing. I can't afford for this PC to be inactive and unloaded at this point in time.

Just a thought, if it's only temporary, try downloading the Beta version. They used to run independently of the standard version though I don't know if still the same. Worth a try for now.

I found the solution for you, read this thread... you have to remove something in the registry..

I don't mind admitting my lacking in comprehension these days, and that this option, as much as it made sense, was still over my head. I believe I am making things hard for myself and maybe this is the kick I need to do a fresh install of Windows 11. For someone who used to whip up a website in Notepad in a week, this is terribly humbling.
The reason I wanted Edge back is because my wife wants to utilize Co-Pilot to write overdue legal notices & completion stages for homes, to clients and needs me to look into Co-Pilot/GPT As much as I am against the idea I must comply.

It's available on Firefox. Search for Bing, for now. Gives you time to reinstall when you have time.

I had not realised that, in fact my interest in the whole thing is weary. Probably why I have made no effort in looking into it until now. Thanks @Fabler2

I ran that script, it does what it says and more.
If you are willing to run it, keep in mind that a few things get removed such as widgets, msedgewebview2 and of course, the stable version of Edge. Note that Edge Canary remained untouched on my system.
This script will NOT reinstall. I think the reference to reinstall implies 'when you do a re-install of Windows, use the script again', rather than to reinstall Edge. There is simply no code in the script to support reinstallation.
If you choose to use the script, I suggest killing msedge , widgets & msedgewebview2 processes before running, this to eliminate any errors.
Reboot as soon as the script is done running.
Bootup time was visibly faster once logged in without all the baggage of the widgets. Memory dropped to about 18% (vs. 24% with Edge & widgets running phone link + Messenger) on the same system at idle with 32 GB of RAM and a system managed pagefile.
I did not run into any issues for the 24 hours I was with Edge removed. Canary Build 25997.1010.

As far as trying to re-install manually , I was able to restore everything but Edge by using
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (do not use the Limit Access option if you are using DISM GUI )
It will download the deleted components.
After that, it was a matter of re-installing Edge from MS.
