BSOD Error possibly due to Error: Volmgr Event ID: 161

Attached is the V2 Log my windows version is Windows 11 22H2 (22621.2283)

I have been getting multiple BSOD's per day depending on what I use my PC for that particular day. At first it started a few months ago and i would get CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED errors. I since did a fresh install on my bootdrive, a week went by and BSOD's came back this time not even flashing long enough for me to catch the error. I check over event logs and i see criticals errors but they just say Kernel-Power 41 (63) followed by a critical shortly after reboot stating Diagnostics-Performance Event ID: 100. i Believe the real issue it stemming from the Kernel BSOD or the events leading upto but i have to idea how to diagnose which hardware to replace from these errors.

I've tried CHKDSK, mdsched.exe, SFC Scans, Clean Install, BIOS Updates, and still can't diagnose the issue. If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

3) Run HD Tune: (free or trial version) (all drives):

Post images or share links for results on these tabs:

a) Health
b) Benchmark
c) Full error scan



4) Run Samsung Magician (all tabs) on the applicable drive > post a share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

5) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

chkdsk /b /v

Run these chkdsk switches on all drives using the syntax: chkdsk /b /v C: , chkdsk /b /v D: , chkdsk /b /v E: , etc.

Make sure that chkdsk /b /v C: is run overnight while sleeping


C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk /b /v
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another

Type: Y

Reboot as needed.



6) After completing chkdsk /b /v on all drives run:

Tuneup plus was ok.

There were no collected dump files.

For new BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.

Pending dump files there may be RAM problems.

Once all of the drive test share links are posted there may be RAM testing.

I have done a 4 pass memtest for RAM and passed can attach those aswell, but that is about as far as I have gone. do create a new V2 Log just now?

i will post new V2 here. will also run a game and get a crash report.

will have to do so after tests. BSOD seems to always happen while gaming i can play warcraft fine 80 percent of the time Call of Duty or FIFA23 is an inevitable BSOD. multitasking at the same time whenever it happens in WoW so RAM may be the culprit.

Just got a BSOD error mid HDTune test created a new V2 log after reboot here it is.

Also updated dropbox with the screens from the tests i have ran so far.

1) When available post an image or share link for the HD Tune full error scan D: ST2000DM008-2FR102


2) Run the Macrorit surface scan on ST2000DM008-2FR102 > post a share link



3) Turn off Windows fast startup:



4) Temporarily detach D: then download and install onto the desktop Windows 11 iso:

HD Tune D: Scan

the chkdsk has also done some repairs to D:

so detach D: and fresh install C: ?

Only download to the desktop.

Please complete all drive tests and post share links.

Then detach the D: drive > monitor for computer stability / instability.



At a later time plan to uninstall any of these non-Microsoft software followed by an in place upgrade repair.
a) antivirus
b) firewall
c) drive encryption

If you're able to clean install followed by restoring an image that is an option after the in place upgrade repair.

If it were me, I would immediately backup all my user files before I continued troubleshooting, especially since zbook suspects a disk problem.

Will get onto this asap.


Yeah not too fussed on losing data did a fresh install not too long ago :)

I have disabled D: in Device Manager and am installing a windows ISO file to my desktop at the moment. i saved it to desktop with mediacreation tool. Did you want me to make a bootable with a USB too? what would the next steps to in place upgrade repair ?
