Buying a new Windows 11 computer

To encourage you to learn, here is a bit of reading to get you started.
I’d advise you to use Tutorials from this forum, wherever possible.

Even us guys who have been around Windows since 3.1 for Workgroups in my case still need to learn or update our skills. There is a vast depth of knowledge in this forum, but you need to show an honest effort first.

COMPUTERS NOT SEEN IN NETWORK MAP

Do this on all systems in network..

Add "LanmanWorkstation" as an additional startup dependency for the "Function Discovery Resource Publication" (FDResPub) service, which seems to do the trick. To do this, you simply open an elevated command prompt (i.e. use the "run as administrator" right-click context menu option to start cmd.exe), then execute the following command:

sc config fdrespub depend= RpcSs/http/fdphost/LanmanWorkstation

Reboot each device after executing this command, and the devices should see each other more reliably in Network and File Manager.
Redirecting

CREDENTIALS STOP ASKING FOR -Do on all computers on network

For Windows HOME Use regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
Create a new DWORD, name it RequireSecuritySignature and set its value to 0.

I'm able to see all the computers now, but even after a reboot it's still asking for Credentials. "Enter your credential...." has always left me scratch my head -- whose creds do they want the user trying to map or the user being mapped? Neither works by the way.

Windows for Workgroups, there's a blast from the past! I actually started with Windows 2.0. I tried Windows 1.0, but it was so buggy that I stuck to MSDOS. Windows 3.0 was the first version I really embraced. I know I ran Windows for Workgroups 3.11 for a few years, that's when I really got totally hooked on the GUI and how cool it was to be able to reliably network my computers. After Windows 95 I skipped Vista and Windows 8.0, 8.1 after brief tests. Instead of Vista, I went with Windows 2000, it was much more stable.

@Rboppy
If you will give a brief explanation of what is happening between the 4 computers we can try to help with networking. Give as much info as you can.
Networking issues is different for different people.
I'll talk about 3 computers:
1. is an old laptop with Windows 10 (19045.5737) that I've been using as our backup computer, my wife's computer still talks to it via File History soon to be replaced by
2. my old 'desktop' another laptop (5737) running Windows 10 that used to talk to the backup computer.
3. The new Window 11 (22H2(22621.4317)) is now my desktop. #1 will probably be set aside. #2 will be our new back computer which I also use as an 'extended' screen when I'm working on an intense project.

See post 18 above, Synergy makes my backup computer act like an extended desktop, with calculators, help screens, etc. right at my mouse cursor. I will use #2 as a transfer machine as well, download to it transfer to #3 as needed.

As of now I've followed all your suggestions, can see all the computers from each other, but can't get mapped:

Both computers have the same username and neither password works.

Are you using a pin or a password to log-in to your computers? I have read that if using a pin you need to sign-in with your password at least once to get the other computers to recognize it. I'm not sure if it's true or not but it's worth a try.

I'm trying to find a post about a couple of setting that might need to be changed because of the increased network security in Windows 11 24H2. Because of my sinus problems and allergies are kicking in, my mind isn't thinking clearly. When I do find it, I'll post a link to it.

I'm not sure if you typed in the info asked for or not but you will always get the User Name or Password is incorrect until you enter it. I have my computers setup to use a password when connected to my network. Being local network I really should change it. For some reason and I'm sure it's normal, I will occasionally be asked to re-enter the info even though I always select the Remember my credentials.

Windows for Workgroups, there's a blast from the past! I actually started with Windows 2.0.

I did run Windows 286, but only as a program launcher for Excel.
I tried Windows 1.0, but it was so buggy that I stuck to MSDOS. Windows 3.0 was the first version I really embraced. I know I ran Windows for Workgroups 3.11 for a few years,

Me too. Before that I ran LANTastic, which was networking for DOS. I guess it worked, but WfN 3.11 was much, much better. Never looked back.
that's when I really got totally hooked on the GUI
Me too. I stopped using DOS windows pretty fast, actually.
and how cool it was to be able to reliably network my computers. After Windows 95 I skipped Vista and Windows 8.0, 8.1 after brief tests. Instead of Vista, I went with Windows 2000, it was much more stable.
I had to struggle with Win 98 at work. Damn printer would crash just sitting there, and you would need to reboot.

At home I went to Win 2000 as soon as I could.

Only thing I have left to suggest regarding networking is to attempt to access other machines using their ip address in file explorer address bar..
If successful you can create shortcuts to the connection.

Rather than networking, other workaround solutions for sharing files include:
1. use RDP between the systems where it is available (Pro can access PRO, Home can access Pro, no way to RDP into a Home machine from either Home or Pro )
OR
2. Use cloud storage provider
OR
3. set up a dedicated NAS.

Finally able to map from W11 to old backup computer, it was a workgroup issue.

Now neither W11 or old BU can map to my old desktop (#2), I get the same error and diagnose as in post 32 above.
