Can I connect to wireless display from LAN?

Hello! I have read about network projectors which are video projectors that connect to the network by a LAN cable. You can connect to these projectors or displays and watch a PowerPoint presentation or video. I have a desktop computer that connects to my router via LAN cable and an LG smart TV that connects to the same router wirelessly. Is there any way to cast a video or mirror my desktop on the TV?

Works over Wi-Fi to my LG TV, presumably using an Ethernet cable to the TV would work the same. Just right click and click "Cast to device" then select the TV. Takes a while to come through but once it starts videos play fine.

I think I can also cast my desktop from Chrome browser.. I will check it. Thanks.

The chrome browser is the way I do it to my Android TV which has Chromecast built-in. You can select to cast the entire desktop to the TV.

I found a little utility called Screentask that does exactly that. It creates a server that casts the desktop to a specific IP address at the local network. All you need is a browser to open this URL. More details tomorrow, now is my bedtime...

It looks like it does the job but is best suited for presentation and working. It is too slow to stream any video. It also cast the desktop at its current resolution (such as 1440x900) there is no way to make it larger or smaller. Any other suggestions appreciated.

Yesterday I got myself a new TV. It is a Google TV, not an Android TV. lol With both the TV and my Android phone connected to the same WiFi network I can just open the Google Home app on my phone, tap on the name of the TV that is shown in there, and tap on Cast screen. But it doesn't seem like this will work if the Google TV is hooked up to the same wireless router via Ethernet cable connection:
That's actually pretty stupid IMO, and, on the TV the phone's screen output looks strangely pixelated like some pixel rows and columns have simply been omitted from the picture. The first-use setup procedure on a Google TV starts by using the Google Home app on the Android phone to scan a QR code that appears on the TV's screen, but this doesn't work when an Ethernet cable has already been plugged into the Google TV, the setup animation in the Google Home app just keeps running forever. After a year and a half you'd expect a corporation like Google to have ironed out such obvious wrinkles. It looks like they chose to wrinkle out the irons instead. It's one of those reasons why I never tried to use smart features on a smart TV until now, it's because I have always known that they are factually rather stupid in a lot of ways. So, I try to stick to using my laptop's HDMI output before anything else, as apps have an overall bad tendency to cause many more headaches of various types. Granted, these features can still be useful if they work. But, in my own experience, that is very often a big if.

When I first upgraded my Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 11, Miracast worked perfectly. But now, after installing several Windows updates it tries to connect for several seconds and then fails, exactly the same behaviour as in Windows 10. I Googled it and saw this is due to a specific file either missing or not the appropriate version. I tried to use the sfc command to restore this specific file, but it doesn't work for files outside the Windows folder. That's why I am looking for alternatives to connect my laptop wirelessly to the TV. Screentask looks like a solution, but not suitable for video due to the lag (minimum refresh interval is 100ms, that is 10fps). I know that HDMI is the perfect solution but then I have to place the laptop next to the TV. This makes it difficult to control it. We use a wireless mouse and the on-screen keyboard, but is not very convenient when need to type a lot, such as replying to this forum. Or I can use a long cable to place the laptop on the table and use its own keyboard to type, but not suitable with the kid nearby. I do that only when alone in the house.

I use a corded mouse (Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury) with a standard USB extension cord plugged into my laptop. The cord doesn't bother me at all, as the mouse is on a side table standing next to me. If you need the cord to be even longer still, there are special USB extension cords that you can buy specifically for this purpose, these cords have a [bus powered] booster circuit built into their female plug so that the [longer than normal] USB data lines don't weaken the signal too much for them to still be able to provide a stable USB connection. These types of USB extension cords usually measure 5 meters in length or sometimes even longer. Or if you can be happy with a wireless mouse. (Personally, I, was unable to find a wireless mouse that ticked all my boxes for me.)

As for the keyboard question. The Logitech K800 Wireless Illuminated. You'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands. Because, it is the ONLY keyboard that has been sensibly designed to be used on your lap without driving a person completely insane. That's just because all the other keyboards are impossible to, without causing any accidental keypresses, be nudged back and forth on your lap (i.e. to keep the keyboard comfortably in place) or be put on/taken off your lap by using only one hand (pics below).

We are a little out of concept here... The point of this thread is to find alternatives to Miracast or help me fix my Miracast failed to connect issue.

If this is solved on another thread, please point me.

Pure Awesome. I have this same keyboard and absolutely love it, besides the flat quieter key, i love the illumination(just wish they had different colors) and the fact that when i first bought it, as soon as i moved my hands over the keyboard it would light up..doesnt do that anymore after having it for about a year now but way cool feature.

sorry i off topiced a reply to the keyboard comment. But I can tell you this unless you are using Miracast through Chrome browser it honestly even after 15 to 20 years or so of development still has a long way to go. Miracast barely worked for me...Ever. And I have owned 2 google chromecast devices, a Belkin Miracast device the Belkin one worked perfect but is not available anymore. As far as the Chromecast devices Dont buy one. It will piddle you off more than anything. I get what your trying to do here. My suggestion is either buy a wifi usb dongle Mirroring device, where you connect the small main peice into your tvs USB slot then plug the dongle into a USB port on your laptop and install the software and bam you can mirror your laptop onto your tv. I dont have time to search for one for you at the moment but, then as a 2nd choice you can download specific apps that mirror via your tvs IP address. The app has to be installed on your tv and your laptop. The tv app needs to be the Receiver and your laptop will be the sender app. easy peasy that way.
Lastly did you say you have CHrome browser on your laptop??? cause if you do that IS the only browser that will out of the box work to mirror to your tv. Now seriously lastly, in your tvs settings do you have bluetooth on? and the wifi?(yes you can turn wifi on even if its hardwired)..cause you should. Also you need to connect your laptop to your tv via tv settings..meaning you have to pair them like any bluetooth device. also make sure you allow screen mirroring in your tvs settings or it wont work.

Well in Google Chrome going to Cast shows my TV. I wouldn't dare test it right now that my kid is watching... Maybe later and report back. Thanks.
For other trying it go to Cast and change sources to Cast screen to cast the whole desktop.

I loved that KB too...mine broke though...old age and many hours of usage for years. Have to grab myself a new one, or maybe try out the MX Keys...

The one in the pics I posted is a sparkling new one BTW, I bought it last year because, although it still works, my other one has had ~10 years of daily use. Before that, I had been adhering strictly to keyboards from the Cherry brand, since 1989 (when I got my 1st PC). I know we're being off topic, but getting screen cast to work on a smart TV is just so much of a royal PITA, more often than not. It basically reminds me of clicking on Google Search's "Im Feeling Lucky" button (when the button is broken). lol
