I Just had a brown out at home, my lights went off for less than a second, my computer shut down, but it powered itself back up, I guess the power outage triggered it to restart, I'm not exactly sure. It attempted to boot three times, booted on the third time. The first two attempts, my PC restarted itself.

Is there a way to determine when the initial shutdown happened? Event Viewer? What specific ID am I looking for?

You can use Event Viewer to find out when a power outage shut down your Windows 11 computer, you can check the Event Viewer logs. Specifically, look for Event ID 6008 in the "System" log, which indicates an unexpected shutdown. This log will show the time and date of the unexpected shutdown.

  1. Open Event Viewer: Press the Windows key + R, type eventvwr.msc, and press Enter.

  2. Navigate to System Log: In the left pane, expand "Windows Logs" and click "System".

  3. Filter for Event ID 6008: In the right pane, click "Filter Current Log".

  4. Check the Event ID: In the "Event IDs" field, type "6008" and click "OK".

  5. Review the Log: The Event Viewer will now display only the events with Event ID 6008, which will show the time and date of the unexpected shutdown.
Alternatively, you can also search for other events related to shutdown, such as Event ID 41, which is logged when you reboot your PC without fully shutting it down.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?

Ehh, well I obviously haven't had a major overall in 11 years, that might change though with Windows 11 25H2, from what I hear. We'll see, maybe there will be a "fix". If not, I'll have to update it then, darn it. I'd thought my computer died in January of this year, luckily not. I didn't see anything good about the 15th gen of Intel CPUs (read that the Core i9 285k was inferior to 14th gen for gaming), so I wanted to wait at least until the 16th Gen.
