Solved Can I name a powerline network the same as an existing wifi?

I have a TP-Link adapter conneced to my router by ethernet. The extende,r in a far room, transmits wifi. If I give this the same name as an existing wifi, will this cause problems?

I can't see why this would present a problem. It's been a few years since I last user powerline adapters but I THINK that I used the same name.

All I can say is this: Try it and see what happens! But please, report back what you find. I'd love to file away in my memory bank what the results are.

Not that I can imagine. The router is searching for the band not the name.
I’d want to quickly identify though. You could always call it name(2) or nameEx or something.

It works! But as I move around the house with my phone the wifi disconnects and reconnects very briefly when one signal gets stronger than the other.

I guess this is OK since there is an option to use WPS to take the credentials from the router. The relevant button on the extender is not called WPS, just WIFI so I hadn't realised.

For anyone intersted, I find that the TP link web utility only works when I am connected to the 'right' "ASUS" network. It seems I have two, non-overlapping wifi networks that are distinct. Windows will happily switch between them as they are both set to 'connect automatically'. But devices on one network can not see devices on the other. This is weird.

I have two WiFi sources in my house, and I just program my Phone to use the strongest signal.
Since the WiFi signal from my Intellinet Router is stronger than the one coming from the Star Link Modem/Router, I just set my phone to lock in on the Intellinet signal. Simple!
