Can I update motherboard & CPU and not get hassled by Microsoft


I know this is an old thread but I want to add some context in case someone else is building a whole new computer, except HDD, and decides to read it.

I built my son a whole new PC running Windows 11. Changed out everything but the HDD, with Win 11 on it. After booting it up it never even asked to reactivate Windows. He has a Microsoft account and Win 11 activation is tied to that. So, in short, build away and keep your Win license, as long as it is tied to a MS account.

Upgrading HardWare Question

If I was to upgrade my hardware with a new motherboard and cpu , I will also need to do a fresh install of Windows 11 ? This is the only way? I have managed to extract my Windows 10 Pro Product key from my current Windows 11 installation, can I use this to activate my new build with a fresh...

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Or, if you have the right version of Windows 11, you can move it from PC to PC, AMD to Intel, etc, etc, and it won't care.
No problems with Microsoft at all.
