Can I watch Netflix 4K in Firefox?

Hello!

I know it is possible to watch Netflix in 4K using the Netflix application or Microsoft Edge, but I would like to do that in Mozilla Firefox. Is this possible? Apparently changing the User Agent so Firefox appears like Edge is not enough. I have a 4K monitor which is HDCP compliant. What else I need to do? I have seen plugins to enable 1080p (apparently Firefox is restricted to 720p), but nothing to enable 2160p. Thank you in advance.

Change to Edge as only Edge supports Netflix in 4K.

Netflix in browser is crap. For some reason the Netflix app from the MS store (literally the only app I use from the store) works quite well. Netflix app works perfect at 4K HDR. So I have to use the Netflix app for now if I want 4K.

I already know that, thanks. My question is if there is any way to force 4K in Firefox. As fas as I know only Microsoft Edge and the Netflix app enable 4K. All other browsers are limited to 720p or 1080p at best. Is there any way to trick Netflix you are using Edge and enable 4K? Spoofing the User Agent is not working. Anything else? Any addon or plugin?

This is not possible, since Mozilla is not paying for the HEVC license. HEVC support is required for 4K HDR Netflix streams. There has been a request for codec passthrough (use Windows global CODEC or things like FFMPEG etc...) though, but I don't think anything will be implemented anytime soon.

For Netflix use the app, it really works the best. It is fast and does not strain the system. Don't fight the system. :wink:

Is there any way to work around this and watch Netflix on the second monitor? I want to be able to work on the first monitor while watching a series on the second monitor. That's why I asked about Firefox because is the only browser that gives you a picture on the second monitor.

Black screen due to copyright? Thats news to me, I've been using netflix on the app and browser across 3 screens for about 4 years every single day and have done on many pc's(Elsewhere located) and it drags across like any other window and displays like any other video would.

I agree with ShamrockRig on this one. Very odd that you get black screen on other than main display while using Edge.

You get the same black screen if you try to cast the display with Miracast. For some reason my second monitor is not trusted and I get the black screen.

Can it be because your monitors don't support the same level of HDCP. Windows can only detect one level of HDCP at a time and things break when there's a mismatch. netflix resol.jpg

I often watch Netflixs on my TV through iGPU while gaming on dedicated and sometimes a tutorial on 3rd screen. As long as the device (PC) receiving the stream is valid then broadcasting to any attached HDCP compliant screen/GPU should just work.
Adapters can cause issues if they break the HDCP link, for example going from HDMI - DVi or similar, some work, others don't.
Casting to other unattached devices may cause issues if they are not HDCP compliant and/ or go over the device limit for the paid tier.
At least that is how I interpret things.

It could be the HDCP level. I guess there is no work around? Can I bypass it or fake it?

This is not true. I can play Netflix at any quality over 3 different displays without any issues at all. The problem must be on your end...

Probably the second monitor is not HDCP compliant. Any way to circumvent it? One workaround is to use Firefox but doesn't support 4K.
