Solved Canary OS

Hey gang, what have you noticed & like about the new Canary OS ? Not sure i want it yet ! Thinking about a dual boot of W11 & Canary or is that possible & would it be worth the trouble of installing ?

I am assuming that future builds will be more exciting than the first Canary because at this time, it really isn't worth the effort.
As we get closer to a Windows 12, I think things will start to change, but for now, there is very little between Dev and Canary.
Canary has Explorer as a UAWP, which seems to create a lot of errors in the log ( 1 GB every 2 days) and this without 3rd party customization.
So the choice is yours. If you must, go for a VM installation, it will save you a lot of headaches.

IMHO MS just changed the name of the Dev Channel to make room for a new channel that they wanted to name the Dev Channel. At least for now. I'll have to wait and see what direction MS takes it before I make my final decision on staying on the Canary Channel or not.

A good way to dual boot is to install the Insider in a native booting virtual hard disk (this is not a virtual machine).

I just create a blank vhdx file in disk management.

I then clone my host OS to the blank virtual hard drive, and create a boot entry for it.

I then boot into cloned version, join the Insider Programme, and select relevant Insider version and upgrade.

(Obviously be careful about licenced programs. I usually uninstall them immediately in clone after 1st startup).

Alternative you can clean install - slightly tricker as you have to mount vhdx file as a drive during installation - easy enough if you are interested.

I recommend the vhdx file is on a second drive (if it is as fast as host drive).

It is easy to delete it later if you wish - delete vhdx file, remove boot entry using msconfig.

Eventually Skipahead was dropped.

Then over time Dev became more like Skipahead.

So now they have reverted Dev more or less to how it used to work (but no guarantee features would cascade to Beta which is how it used to work)

So the now the bring in the Canary build (I call it Canardly after the Rolls Royce joke - rolls down hills but can 'ardly get back up) which is effectively the old Skipahead but maybe a bit a bit more dynamic.

So we have more or less gone full circle. As the French say "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" - the more things change, the more they stay the same!

C'est bien vrai ça! (Isn't that the truth!)
But see, you give the impression that changes are taking place, upper IT management likes that.
Sadly I know that too well.
