Cannot setup user accounts for wife and son

Running Win 11 Pro Version 25H2 Build 26200.7840
Did fresh install on new 2 Tb SSD and everything running fine except I cannot (for the life of me) create and get 2 users accounts to work. I have tried about everything I have found in Google world searches, including registry key entry, Transwiz software (no longer built or supported by vendor), trying Settings method, but no working accounts.

Netplwiz command show actually 2 accounts for my wife, but neither can be used, and one of them is a dummy MS account thinking Win 11 needs that context.

Seems simple to add additional user account so others can use this PC but I am really having a hard time understanding what is wrong.

Help/advise/techniques would be greatly appreciated.

To start, check you have followed the correct procedures.



Maybe remove the ghost ones (or whatever they are)


And for down the track:

• Add Guest Account in Windows 11
• Add Microsoft account to Local account for Hybrid account in Windows 11
• Switch to Local Account from Microsoft Account in Windows 11
• Switch to Microsoft Account from Local Account in Windows 11
• Change User Account Name in Windows 11
• Change Account Picture in Windows 11
• Enable or Disable Account in Windows 11
• Check Account is Local Account or Microsoft Account in Windows 11
• Check Account is Administrator or Standard User in Windows 11
• Update Security Questions for Local Account in Windows 11
• Enable or Disable Use of Security Questions for Local Accounts in Windows 11

Thank you for the help it is really appreciated. Worked through all the suggestions, and have 2 local accounts built but I still cannot access them using the Ctrl-Alt-Delete -> Switch User menu. They do not show up when I click on my name in lower left when I pop open the windows icon either.
Am I missing something in the set up or is this a normal function in Win 11?

Not sure whats happening. Not sure what to advise. Until someone smarter comes along:


Open a command prompt as admin to list the accounts

net user

Then, for each username that was listed above, make sure it says ACTIVE
(Replace username with the username)

net user username

If not active, activate using:
(Again, replace username with a username that was listed above)

net user username /active:yes


Also, it wouldn't hurt to check the system:

Run SFC and DISM


• Open an elevated Command Prompt
Press Win + R, type cmd, then press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to run it as Administrator.

• Run System File Checker (SFC) (This scans and repairs protected system files.)
sfc /scannow


• Run DISM RestoreHealth (This repairs the Windows Component Store.)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth


• Restart Windows
A reboot ensures all repairs are applied.
