Solved Can't change some of systems language windows 11.

Hello everyone. Just bought a new laptop running Windows 11, originally it came in Polish language. I followed all the tutorials I could find and easily changed display language, input language and most of the system's language. Sadly when shutting down, if any programs are still opened the system gives me the option to force close them in Polish. Same problem after I enter my windows user password, instead of Welcome , as it should, it says it in Polish. Any options how to change that and is it even possible. I've tried even Bios, it's set to English there.

The command results indicated that the installed edition is Windows Core.

A Microsoft reference for Windows Core was not found.
In this link it indicates that it is a stripped down version of Windows:


The target edition displayed core single language as an upgrade option.

It appears that language change is not a feature.

Thanks @zbook. So what your saying is, if I upgrade to Windows 11 Pro or any other of the full versions I will be able to set everything to English?

Some languages aren't "base core editions" and are not 100% complete and only have some translation - although usually the GUI and menu's are OK. It depends on the language you are installing -- Most of the "Usual" suspects, e,g German, Spanish, French, Dutch etc are OK but if you are trying to install ancient Sanskrit or something -- then good luck.

I'm not sure though why Ms makes this such a problem --if they did this type of programming as MVC type (Model View Controller) and separated the GUI from the actual core kernel they could easily define all the screen elements in a "data dictionary" and all the language install routines would have to do is pull the stuff at Language install time from the data dictionary in the relevant language -- but who am I to teach Ms basic GUI coding !!!!.

@jimbo45 Thanks for the reply. Upgraded to Windows 11 Pro and still the same issue. I guess I'm just stuck with Polish as a part of my systems language. Anyway, thank you guys for the help. Just a tip for myself next time, never buy a computer with pre-installed windows lol.

Hi there

Seems to be reasonable in Icelandic !!! hardly the worlds most widely spoken language -- plus on this build Black / Dark theme finally working properly . Only couple of small places where there's still English text -- all in all not a bad job. Note I'm on a Linux laptop with KVM/QEMU as the "Virtualisation Software" but I think it's nothing to do with any Virtualisation software but a Windows issue in your case. I can't actully think of any version of Windows that won't allow English to be installed as a secondary language. I don't speak Polish otherwise I'd have a go on this build installing it. !!!

Windows display language and system language are two totally different things. Windows system language is the language of Windows core, the same as the language used in install media. Display language is whatever user chooses to use, by downloading a language pack and setting it as his / her display language.

Changing Windows 11 display language has absolutely nothing to do with what edition you are running. You either can't do it (Home Single Language Edition), or can change it (all other editions).

Display language can be set individually for each user account. For instance, my typical Windows setup has my main account in British English, with additional user accounts in both my native languages Finnish (Suomi) and Svenska (Swedish), as well as in language of my adopted home country German (Deutsch):



When I need to assist someone using one of these languages, I can simply switch user to get for instance a screenshot in correct language.

Display language can be any of the official Windows languages, but it does not change the Windows system language!

The purpose of a language pack is to change the most essential, most used Windows UI terms, notifications, dialogs and so on, to language the user prefers. However, some Windows core stuff will remain in system language.

To completely change the system language, the easiest way is to just to reinstall (clean install) Windows in your preferred language. As Windows digital license is not language specific, you could download Windows 11 ISO in your preferred language, and clean install the same Windows edition as your currently activated Polish Windows. It would be automatically activated.

However, with clean install, you would lose all your settings, files and installed software.

If you want to change the system language, and keep all your accounts, setting, files and apps, you must use Windows System Preparation Tool (Sysprep.exe). Here's how:


That's it. Your Windows system language has now been changed. Some details, like device descriptions in Device Manager and such, might still be in original system language, but as much as is possible, will be changed to new system language.
