Hey.

After a restore from image backup i lost my winre.wim. I build it again.
Some of the procedures that i follow create a new partition.

1712768842837.png

I cant extend C: to delete this partition , because with the specified partition (others work) the "extend" option i greyed out.
I search it a little at internet and i read that "extend is greyed out when there is no enough free space on the disk". But my C: has 388GB free.
When i create with diskpart this partition with instructions from internet , i applied gpt and attributes data. I think thats the problem.

Any suggestions ?
Thanks.

Where do you think you ought to be able to extend it [i.e. which partitions do you expect to be able incorporate within C:\?] and what are the descriptions of those partitions?

Extend C: to 1,02GB (Z: or unallocated). If you check the image , you will see that there is only 1 useless partition.
All the others are system's partitions (C, recovery, EFI).
Thanks.

You can only extend into adjacent partitions.
You could delete the Recovery partition [using a defined procedure] then extend across both the 1.22 & 1.06 partitions and then, if you felt it was worthwhile, create a new Recovery partition.

Last month i have deleted , rebuild and update (with drivers) the winre.wim about 30 times (..MS case).
This time , i restore from image backup that it hasnt the updated winre.wim and also i took a strange error
of the type "coudnt find winre.wim" while it was at 3 points , c:\windows\recovery included.
So i will do it 1 more if you give me the commands.

Else , if you mean :
1) Delete the recovery partition
2) Extend C: to it
3) Extend C: to Z:
4) Recreate WinRE partition ,
i think i can try it my self firstly.

I do not know what procedure you are following.
I follow the advice of trusted forum members such as those I named before.

I do not have Recovery partitions so I did not bother with that update.
What response do you get in an elevated cmd / PS window for the command
reagentc /info
It will tell you where your WinRe is running from [it does not have to be run from a Recovery partition].

And do note that the results [see the example in that MS article] will always count one more partition than Disk mgmt shows you [that's because Disk mgmt does not how a tiny 16MB partition at the start of every disk].
So your results will probably include
Windows RE location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk1\partition3\Recovery\WindowsRE
which actually points to a hidden folder on your C:\ drive partition even though you think your C:\ drive is partition number 2 not 3.

Its solved.
I boot to WinRE from USB , shift+restart , it works 100% OK and includes all added drivers.

As expected.
And I wrote my post #14 before I saw your results in your post #13.

So you can extend C:\ to the end of the disk and not bother re-creating a Recovery partition - without losing any functionality.
