can't make file explorer smaller

I have been told that my issue is related to software conflict. I am a novice at clean boot. Do not really know how to fix the issue via clean boot. Any other alternatives to clean boot I can try?

For what it's worth, memory tells me that this behaviour occasionally happened in Windows 10 from time to time. Solution was as described above but it was fixed at some point because I haven't experienced it recently. I have yet to experience it in 11.

Thinking about this a bit more; the Window conflict was between an Office product and the File Explorer.

I have found through a lot of trial and error that it is best to never run an app as maximized. Instead run everything as normal windows and resize each window manually by dragging the edges. Explorer remembers it's size from then on each time you open it. Doing it this way seems to prevent a lot of irritating conditions in the future. I hide my taskbar. If I run a window maximized, the taskbar will not appear. I have no such issues when I drag the edges of a window to resize.

Good advice! Windows 11 Beta has been very stable for me. No problems with Window fit at all. Yes, I too keep the Taskbar hidden.

I think you are missing the whole purpose of clean boot. If there is a software conflict causing a problem, clean boot will NOT FIX ANYTHING. Clean boot is only a tool you can use to apply the process of elimination to determine what the problematic application is. To actually resolve the issue you have to either remove the problem app completely, or seek an update to it that resolves your issues.
