I'm trying to move my Firefox profile from my Canary build to my Win 11 24H2 build. My first attempt was with MozBackup. It didn't work. I then tried going to Users/my user name/AppData/Local/Mozilla/Firefox and copying the Profiles folder and pasting it into the same folder in 24H2. And it's still not working. I'm guessing the Firefox changed something. Does anyone know how to move the Firefox profile from the Canary build to the 24H2 build? I'm slowly making the Win 24H2 my primary OS instead of the Canary builds.

Can’t you just use the Firefox Sync? I find it incredibly helpful.

I just copy the whole Firefox Profiles folder. I've done it multiple times.

Are you sure you have the correct profiles folder? The correct location is C:\Users\you\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.

If the FIrefox versions are close, it should come over easily.

EDIT: I realized I left out a detail. I install FFox on the new machine. I start it and let it create a new profile for the user I am signed on as. I exit FFox and rename the new profile it created for me as SAVE-whatevertheycalledit so that I have still have the name available. I then copy the old profile into the new directory and rename it to the name FFox chose for the profile for that account.

I, too have moved FF profiles in the past successfully as you did. Now I use FF sync and not worry about it. I have it set on 4 devices. Everything stays identical on all of them..

I'm not sure because #1. I never used it and #2. My use of Firefox doesn't have any connection to anything except surfing the web.

All it takes is a Mozilla/firefox account. It’s not for everyone but it sure is a time/life saver.

You have made one mistake, else it works the way you did it.
You copied : C:\Users\your username/AppData/Local//Mozilla/
but you should have copied C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

EDIT: I realized I left out a detail. I install FFox on the new machine. I start it and let it create a new profile for the user I am signed on as. I exit FFox and rename the new profile it created for me as SAVE-whatevertheycalledit so that I have still have the name available. I then copy the old profile into the new directory and rename it to the name FFox chose for the profile for that account.

That's exactly what I did. Using Mozbackup or pasting my user profile isn't working. All I get is the default Firefox start page. My first attempt after the failure was to rename my old profile as OldProfile. This didn't work. I'm going to try deleting all profiles and then add the profile I want. If this doesn't work I'm going to try the program that @antspants suggested. This is the first time I couldn't easily move my Firefox profile.

I got it to work. Renaming my Profile folder to Oldprofile and restoring the profile from Canary to 24H2 didn't work. What did work was totally deleting the original User folder and restoring the backup from the Canary build worked

I moved my Firefox profile a long time ago to my data drive so it gets backed up every day. I just copied the entire Thunderbird fold er out of my user's AppData\Roaming folder to the target location and then edited the profiles.ini file in the AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird folder on the boot drive to point to the new location. This also allows me to move the whole email base to my laptop when I go on the road and still have my up to date email base. When I get back, I just move it back to my desktop environment.

Here's what my profile.ini looks like now.
