Solved I've been using MozBackup for literally decades to back up my firefox profile. Is there any real reason that I should be using something newer?

Everything that need an account is a bad backup in my world..
1 you need internet.. if you dont have internet you cant log in to the account. (you cant pay your bill or internet goes down or your router break down)
2 the provider can shut down your account (user agreements) and then you dont have access.

everything that has the word backup has to be possible to do 100% offline.. otherwise you can be screwed. but this goes for Operating systems too.
if you cant boot your computer offline and use it, then its a bad deal ,as you can be screwed.

I'm a long time user of Firefox. I've been using it even before it was called Firefox.
I can't recall using MozBackup before. If I ran into problems, I'd probably just restore a system image. I might give it a try though. I might try the newer Beta version.

If I ran into problems, I'd probably just restore a system image.
My FirefoxPortable folder is among those specific folders that I have seperately backed up (and isolated with Sandboxie-Plus so I rarely need to do a restore).

System images are only meant as a last resort for fixing severe problems like Windows is broken in such a way that cannot easily be repaired fast enough. Firefox Portable simply doesn't have these kinds of severe problems that could warrant doing a restore from a system image. If the PC works, Firefox Portable works. Or if it still doesn't, then someone urgently needs to stop jinxing their computer. :D

Already many years I am using a 'home made' batch routine to copy the entire Firefox profile to a zip file, using 7ZIP. That backup is named the date of the moment of backup.

Before the backup starts, the batch file first removes any available chrome_debugger_profile folder. This folder is created automatically when using the Browser Toolbox to inspect the Firefox UI structure. It contains temporary data, can sometimes increase considerably in size, and can safely be deleted or excluded at the start of a backup routine.

Because such a backup only works if Firefox is not open, I do so immediately after the system start and start Firefox at the end of the batch, so I know the backup is ready.

If the system is restarted during the day, the new backup will overwrite the old one. A maximum of 7 backups are kept, i.e. from the past 7 days. This way I can always go back to an older backup. The backups are saved on a separate data partition, which is backupped to NAS and to cloud every day.

I made a shortcut to the batch, made that start minimized (via file properties) and copied it into the system startup program folder.
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\[link to batch program]

If anybody would want to have a copy of that batch (in order to change it for his own purpose) please see the attached text file. To make it a batch file, remove the extension .txt at the end. It has accompanying texts that are translated into English, but the names of the variables (folder and filenames) still are in Dutch. I did not want to change them because I can't check if the batch still does what it should do.

When some time ago I read about MozBackup I tested that program. Although the advantage of this is that you can use it when Firefox is running, the advantage of my own routine is that the zip files turned out to be much more compact than a backup made with MozBackup.

So I'll stick to my own batch method. ;-)

I'm wondering what is in your Firefox profiles that demands such dedication to extreme backup measures? I take care to backup my Thunderbird folder as it has all my email files and archives. While I'd have to reconfigure Firefox if I lost it, I feel that my redundant image backups one a week of my boot drive are more than sufficient for backup. Since I have a password manager, I don't have to worry about saved passwords that might be lost...

I also use Hekasoft Backup & Restore as it also backs up and restores my the settings of all my extensions such as "GroupSpeedDail" & "ZoomPage WE" and these extensions can be time consuming to set up from scratch.

I'm wondering what is in your Firefox profiles that demands such dedication to extreme backup measures?
There is no dedication. But for my method making Clonezilla full system images only when something important in the system has been changed and before any Windows update (which I choose to do at the moment that suits me, not MS), I have the possibility to restore the last profile after an image restore. Which I used quite often already.

And further it's nothing different from the functioning of MozBackup or HekaSoft (as far as I remember from testing those packages). If I would want to make a backup once a week, I could do so by the task scheduler. But in that case my Firefox last saved Bookmarks and History would be from one week ago, I prefer to have it from yesterday. And possible changes in Firefox Extensions will be included in the backup, so I don't need to bother about reinstalling if there was a change.
