Solved I've been using MozBackup for literally decades to back up my firefox profile. Is there any real reason that I should be using something newer?

Yeah I could do that, but it's a matter of preference, that's all.
That is OK as long as those files are there and match the alphanumeric hash of your backups.
Where you could get into issues is if you had to clean install Firefox from a disk failure or clean install of windows then the installs.ini and profiles.ini alphanumeric hash would not match the alphanumeric hash of your backups.
This could cause Firefox to display a profile missing message when you try to launch it.

So far that hasn't happened (knock on wood) but that's good to know. Probably due to the fact that I typically do
fresh installs whenever I've had to rely on reinstalling my profile.
