My winver is 22H2

I want to change my default program fo opening .htm, .mtml, http, https from Edge to Chrome but it stubborn;y wont chasnge.

Have discovered 31/01/2022 Internet speed at router 41 mbps. At this PC 9. Internet is via wired ethernet.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to make Chrome default as in Windows 10 where you could change the default browser from Settings. In Windows 11 you much change the file extensions an application can handle one-by-one to the desired application. Navigate to Settings, Applications, Default Applications, find Google Chrome and click to open. You should see a list of file extensions that Chrome can handle. Click each extension to change it to Chrome one-by-one. Anyone knows if there is a third party tool or any PowerShell command to make an application default for all the extensions it can handle instead of changing all the types one-by-one? This is very time consuming and inconvenient particularly for applications than can handle tens of types, such as VLC.

Yes I am trying to set chrome as the default for .htm and .html but it wont change.

You must be an Administrator to do such changes. You cannot do that from a limited account. Otherwise this is some bug, you can right-click on the start button, select Command Prompt as Administrator or Terminal as Administrator and execute the command sfc /scannow to find and fix any system file errors.

No one uses the PC except me. I am an administrator as far as I know.

Use the sfc command to find and fix and system files errors. If the problem persists after that, post again for further help.

Try to set Edge to open .htm and .html, just to correct the relevant Registry key if it is corrupted, and then try to set Chrome again. Also updating Edge or reinstalling latest version could repair any corrupted files or Registry keys. The same goes for Chrome, try to update it or reinstall latest version. Search for "Google Chrome offline installer" and use that instead, don't run the online installer.

Where it says choose a default and I select edge it doesnt change to edge although links in Outlook 2021 are opened by edge.

Most likely some file or Registry key is corrupt. Download latest Microsoft Edge version and install to fix it (in-place upgrade/repair). Do the same with Google Chrome, just in case.

I have download and reinstalled Edge and Chrome. When I went to default apps as in attached it had Edge set as the top 2. When I tried to set them to chrome they went blank and when I tried to reset them back to Edge they stayed blank.

Have discovered 31/01/2022 Internet speed at router 41 mbps. At this PC 9. Internet is via wired ethernet.
Uninstalling Chrome, restart and installing Chrome again would make any difference? No more clues here.

What! I hadn't noticed that option before! It certainly is not there for a clean installation of Windows 11 22H2. Probably some update added it. Thanks! I see it is only available for browsers. Please do add it for any application (make VLC default player, make Windows Photo Viewer default photo application etc). Maybe at some future update or at Windows 11 23H2...
