Changing forum text size?

Should everyone be interested in computers—even people we drive nuts by talking about them so much?

Hey everybody,

I've noticed that the message text size here on WEF seems unusually big—bigger than I've ever seen on a forum, I think.

This is obviously good for sight-impaired members, of course... But do the rest of us have any options for controlling text size? Thanks, A.

The quick way is the default windows zoom Ctrl + Mouse wheel or use the zoom tool in your browser

With the increased use of high res [especially 4K] and it's use on smaller screens the default size is intentionally larger than some sites but it's as always a compromise and has user control

What—you can zoom in and out with Ctrl+mouse wheel?? Wow, whaddaya know! Okay, I'm being ironic. Though I've been on this forum only since October, I've been using PCs (and occasionally Macs, sorry) since pre-mouse days. So yes, I know about the mouse-wheel-zooming thing, but thanks for making me feel young again for a moment! 😁

As far as I know, the only real distinction site developers must make is whether it's a mobile display or not—and if it is, to make their text big enough so it's legible even on a phone-size display.

On HD(+) displays, text is usually too small at 100% DPI, so the user needs to adjust their OS's DPI scaling. But when text is too big, it usually means (a.) you're inadvertently viewing the page at more than 100% browser zoom; or (b.) the site's creators opted for a larger-than-usual point size.

In other words, I've never heard of anyone saying, "Gee, displays are getting awfully high-res these days... Maybe we'd better make the text on our [non-mobile-version] webpages bigger." It's how close we have to get to the pages that's changed, if you will.

DISCLAIMER: I'm saying all this entirely good-naturedly, as we like to chatter about computer stuff here. I love this excellent site and am grateful to be on it. I was a regular on tenforum.com, and eightforum.com before that, and sevenforum... I'm guessing they were related. And really, I don't mind the big text here at all; I was just curious. Okay, that's about it. Cheers, A.
