changing the windows 11 boot animation, background and logo to your own like you could do in windows 7?

hello, im working on making a custom windows 11 distro for my company, i want to change the spinng dots or the circle to a custom animation thats my own that im making, but how to go about doing that?

Those spinning dots is called a throbber, also known as a loading icon. It is an indication that a program (Windows itself or some other application) is performing background actions. IMO trying to go that deep into the OS just for the sake of having a custom throbber might be asking for trouble.

thanks. im still going to look into it. i was able to do it in windows 7 and windows 10 tho.

I am pretty certain it cannot be done in UEFI installations, only in mbr legacy bios installations, and Windows 11 does not support mbr installations any more (it never officially supported it by you could bypass that for 21H2, but others have found that it does not work for 22H2.


PS - I do not know about US but term throbber has decidely questionable implications in UK.

I've just tested that with a standard 22H2 22621.525 install usb made by the MCT. Applying the HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig registry patches still works to bypass all checks, you can install 22H2 on a Legacy MBR machine.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I just upgraded to the latest with a USB bypass with Rufus that simple without doing technical work. I always find the Easy steps

The check mechanism (and workarounds) for a clean install are different from those needed for an in-place upgrade. I already knew that an upgrade to 22H2 worked, but felt it important to check that a clean install would also work.

Takes some effort though LOL.

I am wondering if my UEFI only pc (no CSM compatibility) would work. I need a fat32 EFI partition on my pc - it will not boot from a legacy bios NTFS installation. I may be able to boot from it as a dual boot proving bcd commands added to my host EFI perhaps.

They're the same. Registry changes are applied to where Setup.exe runs (boot.wim for clean install, host for in-place upgrades).
The whole appraiser thing is deprecated since the reg keys bypass all checks.

with rufus you can select the legacy format

I am wondering if my UEFI only pc (no CSM compatibility) would work. I need a fat32 EFI partition on my pc - it will not boot from a legacy bios NTFS installation. I may be able to boot from it as a dual boot proving bcd commands added to my host EFI perhaps.

theres proably a bios tweak you can do.
